    I just read on mlsdaily, that Pires is said to be linked with your club. Interested to see how this plays out.

    Probably confused Villareal and Valencia.

    Anyway..I'm 'ehh' on this news. If he was 31-32? Probably. 36? No thanks. Maybe has a year left in the tank. However, I'd much rather a younger someone else.

    People said the same about Djorkaeff and he worked out ok.

    In that case..is there any word on how he's doing in Spain these days? In terms of playing time, quality of play, etc.?

    Eh. I'd like to see us get an upgrade in the midfield, I'm not sure Pires is the answer. If he came as a non-DP, I guess that would be cool, but he's not IMHO someone we blow a lot of our cap space on. Not at his age, at least.

    I'd love to see Le Toux talk to some countryman to get someone over here, especially Henry but I'd be cool with Patrick Vieira (who has also been rumored to possibly be an MLS target).

    I would not at all mind Robert Pirès. I am/was hoping for someone younger maybe a Keane or Trezeguet...maybe that is why number 17 is still open, for Trezeguet :) If this (Pires) does happen I hope we get him before the 15th and then get another DP over the summer.

    I thought Philly as soon as I read what they described in the article, I think he'd be great to bolster the team, while not tieing up your DP spot in the long term. It allows you to plan for who is out of contract a year or two down the road.

    Would that mean a 4-4-2?

    Orozco/Califf/Arrieta/Stahl
    Torres/Miglioranzi/Fred/Pires
    Moreno/LeToux

    or 4-3-3?

    If they want that, they sign someone off of the CASA teams, from what I hear at least. ;)

    Pires can't be a DP, right? I don't see him selling many tickets and he'll be 37 at the end of this season (which ain't young for a winger). Basically, he's the same age as Guillermo Barros Schelotto (who, if I'm not mistaken, is no longer a DP).

    I think GBS was a DP in his first year, but resigned to a lower contract.

    I'm mixed on Pires, I used to be a huge fan of his when he played for Arsenal, but I thought they let him go at the right time.

    I'd say, NO DP on him, but bring him on if he is willing at the right price.

    But I heard Pires likes DP. Something to do with Arse or something. I don't, maybe I'm wrong.

    Even though I hate him it would be incredible to see him line up for the U's. I just don't know what he's got left and I don't know if I've even seen him play since he went to Spain.

    Right, that was my point. I think it would be cool if somehow haing Le Toux led to other French players on the team, I just wouldn't necessarily pick Pires as my top choice for such a player.

    Anyhow, I'm cool with signing Pires as a non-DP, I just want him to be the big "name" pickup we do this season (assuming we do such a pickup at all).

    While he's obviously not at the level he was with Arsenal in the early 00's, he still pretty much starts the majority of the matches for a mid table La Liga club.

    Pires being 36, my first thought was absolutely not for our first DP, but looking at our lineup right now he'd instantly make our MF so much better.

    If he's our first DP I guess I'm ok with it in the end, and if he doesn't take up a DP spot, it's a top notch signing.
