They have enlarged the library at Frisco, it covers 2/3rds to 3/4ths of the place. Bet they keep the homeless out, though.

I can't find ANYONE giving a deal on the HD Tivo (real Tivo, not that crappy knockoff that I have from Comcast,) DirecTV setup, or I might switch. The price tag I've seen every time is still 1K. Am I missing a good deal somewhere?

oh, i might've been wrong on the deals then - maybe they only have 'em for the regular tivo.

HD DirecTiVos are HOT right now -- [Tony Kornheiser]hotter than Bea Arthur in a bikini[/TK] -- so good luck finding one under $999 before next summer.

As for a regular HD tuner (non-TiVo), if you've been a DirecTV customer for a while, call them up and ask for "customer retention" and they'll hook you up.

By "hook up," I mean they'll give you a deal on an HD receiver for $100 or $200 as long as you make some sort of programming commitment.

yeah, but stand-alone it would be like $500, right? maybe even just apply the same kind of discount to a Tivo'd version to make it $600 or $700? i don't know these things at all.

The problem is that they're not going to give you any sort of deal on the new HD DirecTiVo right now, because they're so new and so popular. They'll only give a deal on a regular HD receiver, but mostly because they'll be giving you last year's HD receiver, which they're trying to clear out of their warehouse.

    Currently have standard Tivo.
    HD Tuner: $500
    HD Tivo: $1000

I don't want to waste my time on a HD Tuner without a way to record in HD, so the next purchase is HD Tivo...just not now at $999 -- not when I have Taiwan, Mexico, & Germany trips to pay for.

    Here's the $64k question...

when are we going to be able to burn a cd from a HD pvr ???

and will same be compatible for playback in non-HD dvd players,
in letterbox format, after the 'switch' in '07 ????????

i see no point in reconfiguring the numerous vhs setups I have
around the house if I can't offload to hard media....

how many gigs does a 2-hour HD fixture require?
how many gigs are on these new HD pvr's?
what happens to all of your archived fixtures when the power goes out?
