For the third straight game I'll say - Rooney's breakout match

Gilberto and Alan Hutton could both make their Tottenham debuts in the home match against Manchester United.

Defender Ledley King is being assessed to determine whether he will be ready, while striker Darren Bent (knee) has been edging closer to fitness.

Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez and Owen Hargreaves are pushing to return to the Manchester United starting XI following the midweek win over Portsmouth.

Louis Saha (knee) and Gary Neville (ankle) remain sidelined.

Tottenham (from): Cerny, Robinson, Chimbonda, Lee, Gilberto, Hutton, Gunter, Kaboul, Dawson, King, Rocha, Tainio, Jenas, Malbranque, Boateng, Taarabt, Huddlestone, O'Hara, Lennon, Bent, Berbatov, Keane.

Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, O'Shea, Simpson, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Nani, Park, Scholes, Ronaldo, Anderson, Carrick, Hargreaves, Giggs, Rooney, Tevez.

Was the mistake in the title intentional?

I expect to see quite a few goals in this one, hopefully as always we score more than them.

Normally I ascribe to the DS school of thought with respect to Tottenham --that because they try to play an open game with us, our superior players will eventually get the better of them, ensuring a comfortable win. I'd like to think that the arrivals of Woodgate, Hutton, and Gilberto won't change that, but the sudden emergence of a quality backline for Spurs (many variables here: will King be healthy? will the backline gel in their first match? etc) may change the normal dynamic. Almost no result would surprise me here. I could see Spurs grinding out a 1-0 win or losing in a rout. One thing I think is for sure, is that when Juande's vision of the side really begins to implement itself, this fixture will no longer be looked at as any sort of gimme. But for his lack of personel (still weak in midfield, the aformentioned lack of backline chemistry, and questions about the GK spot), I forsee three points, and will be very happy once they get locked up.

Ossie Ardiles used to call them Tottingham and even made the FA Cup song saying it. Quite a cult way to call 'em over here.

If they field an entirely new backline to go with a porous midfield, I expect us to tally highly.

The instruction then would be to simply swarm them and ruin whatever fragile routines they've worked on, if any with interplay. We'll go beserk if they do that.

I hope it to be a great victory for the Red Devils, but I'm always kind of scared with Spurs.
    But ******** it... Go United!
3x0 - Ronaldo finishing the game again with Tevez and Arsenal falling before the City!!!! I Believe!!!!!

I think we need to hit their new backline hard and hit is fast. Let's see if they can cope with how we play. Full strength, bringing off players as appropriate depending on the score.

    Thanks for answering that.

The song in question if anyone's bothered:

What with them going to Wembley soon in the Carling Cup, us having our own Argentinian and that, I thought it sort of appropriate.

    Besides, I don't make mistakes. :p

I was going say that three of the back four for Tottenham (if they play a back-four) have never played together before tommorow ie Giberto, Hutton and Woodgate and two of them have not played in the PL before (Hutton and Giberto).

Hopefully they will play like they have never seen each other before..:p

I would expect their fullbacks to push the attack tomorrow. The key will be our finishing. We will get our chances. We should get a lot of opportunities on the counter. If our finishing is decent, it could be a big score.

I want Park to have a rest.

So I want Nani to start, a clean sheet and 3 points.

    That is all.

Woodgate is a quality defender, I'm sure he'll be up for his debut.

On that note, I remember Dean Richards' debut. :p

    Ah, piss off.

Kind of glad for it actually, just about the only time I ever start threads and gives the impression that I contribute. :)

Anyway, I saw this as a semi-big game, perhaps slightly tricky (although looking at the posts so far I might be alone in that) and thought people would be eager to talk about it. Just a bit surprised that no-one started it sooner.

We gotta go full strength and give their new backline a real examination.

    2-0 .

I've started threads before, but I have trouble finding the large United badge and a tiny opponent badge.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict a United victory and a Ronaldo brace.

I think Park has been playing really well and I want to see him score, so I'd play him even if it is for only 20 minutes off the bench.

Park played like shit last game. Lost the ball half the time he had it, I want to see Nani and Ronaldo on the wings, but Giggsy will play because he was rested midweek.

    4-2 United
    United: Rooney Rooney Scholes Ronaldo
    Spurs: Berbatov Keane
