If true, then a Gooner presence will definitely need to be present down in DC! I would love the chance to watch an American side absolutely destroy Sp*rs.

Didn't DC beat sp*rs at WHL, for christ's sake? Maybe Tottenham would be better off playing Charleston Battery.

If this is true, it'd certainly be fun to take the train down to DC and sing with the United supporters.

We need more matches like this, though. Want more European teams to come and play against MLS sides! MLS regular season and national team games just aren't enough! :D

I second that and at least you get USMNT games. The national teams we haave had recently is mexico and bolivia. Not what I call high quality soccer. Bring over Europeans damn it!

Yes, we all have the tape of the game at Three Point Lane. While Sp*rs fielded an old boys team (Chris Waddle was playing for pete's sake), DC United looked the better side and got the well deserved victory. I am hoping that Sp*rs come to the US because unlike the Manchester United Money Grubbing Tour, I would actually travel and pay good money to boo Sp*rs!

Almost every year DC has played a European side. Leeds (draw 1:1), Newcastle United (DC won 3:1), and Leverkusen (DC lost 3:4) have all made trips over. Last year it was Boca Juniors as our friendly. Sp*rs would be great! Another chance to beat them!

    Further confirmation in the Post:

This may be the only time I wear RED instead of black to a DC game. In fact, I wonder if DC will wear their red 3rd uniforms (like they did against Boca Juniors). Yum yum.

Sp*rs fans could taunt us by chanting, "You won the league in black and white!" - but at least DC had that bit of red trim.

Hey, Rev, maybe we can organize a pre-game meeting place for visiting Gooners? Perhaps ticket coordination, too. Stay tuned here and at www.arsenalamerica.com folks!!!

Wouldn't mind old Stoitchkov breaking some legs in this match instead of kids decades younger than him.

If there is gonna be some Arsenal presence there, let me know I'll be there in a heartbeat.

Count me in too. I'm only a two hour car drive away.

Is it possible that we could have an "Arsenal FC Champions Section" at two games this year (ManU-Juve being the other, of course)??? If we win the title (fingers crossed), I think Sp*rs-DC is primetime to do a little trashtalking.

Um, since Rick is in NYC - it would make a bit more sense for those of us local to DC to arrange stuff. G. Rex and I will "arrange things" on our end with locations and stuff.

The Post says the game will be in May, after the EPL season.

The date I heard was 5/14, so if things are going well, that could be one hell of a week.

"Arrange things." I like that. I think the Rev and I are going to be using a lot of Dr. Evil-style "air quotes" in the coming month.

Of course, Rick may have to officially deputize us. Wait! - We don't need no stinkin' badges!

    -G. Rex

Note to self: Practice Americanized version of "You Won the League in Black and White," sung to the tune of "Camptown Races."

You won the league in black and white!
    Doo-dah, doo-dah...

Oh, if this match goes off, Mr. Rooney will attend I'm sure. He may not choose to sit with us red-shirted ones, but he'll be there.

Poor lad. Afflicted at an early age with Tottenaria Dementia (TD). A rare (in the US) brain disease, TD is believed to be caused by prions, the warped protien molecules also believed to cause mad cow disease. TD seems to be transmitted to humans from exposure to a particularly dorky-looking species of blue chickens, and causes completely irrational behavior, though only in certain specific areas.

These specific areas include, but are not limited to, poor choice in wardrobe (especially shirts and scarves), failure to accurately discern exactly what is and is not a foul, and delusions about how well one's sporting teams will fare in a given season or game.

Most people with TD can lead reasonably normal lives. But in advanced cases, TD can cause severe decision-making difficulties and, in some cases, depression (see the case of one Miss Prunella Face).

I've tried to treat Mr. Rooney on several occasions, but he has consistently refused this treatment - another sign of diminished decision-making capacity.

Geez, the Scum can't even schedule a friendly right. A Wednesday night? That officially eliminates my chances of going.

I believe that the evil Yevgheny may be at work. I may be required to travel on May 14 the day of the DC - Sp*rs game... :( Bad things are afoot!

:D Heh, heh, heh... A little of both, in fact. If it's on a Wed. I officially cannot go. Unfortunately, I can't miss school for football. I don't know why, though...

Is Klinsmann's Capital Cup idea exclusive to Spurs, is there a chance the Gunners might come over next year (sans the Dutch Master, of course), or will it be capital cities other than those of the UK and US?

Does being "capital of the world" count?

What with that I-90 thing vs. the Metros, are the DC scum desperate to prove manhood versus better cities through nonsense cups or what?
