Doing this post has been painful. looking at the collective football genius that passed through our ranks in the 80's, and comparing it to the drought of the 90's.....the horror...the horror....

Firstly, as with the 90's list, some are overlaps from the 70's, but on the whole this team is immense. This lot in their prime against the A*se's and ManUre's of today would make an incredible game!

As before, feel free to include anyone I forgot.

    GK - Clemence

    RB - Danny Thomas

    CB - Mabbutt

    CB - Perryman

    LB - Hughton

    RW - Ardiles

    DM - Roberts

    AM - Hoddle (who else?!)

    LW - Waddle

    FW - Archibald

    FW - Clive Allen

    Honourable Mentions;

Tony Galvin, Terry Fenwick, Steve Hodge, Micky Hazard
Paul Miller, Garth Crooks, Mark Falco, Paul Allen, Nico Claesen
    Ricky Villa, Richard Gough, Gascoigne.

*sigh* What a great team! Gough was still so good in the late 90's that we tried to pinch him off Everton after he returned from the US.

Hodge was a great player too, highly underrated. One of the reason's I put Roberts in ahead of him is because Roberts scored in the UEFA Cup final against Feyenoord. He also finished his career up in Scotland when Scottish football was good (i.e it wasn't just the Old Firm who won the SPL) playing for Rangers.

I forgot to give Tony Parks an honourable mention too. It was his penalty save in the UEFA Cup final that won us the match. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he saved Eidur Gudjonson's Dad's penalty!?!? And Frank Arnesen played for Feyenoord too? weirdness!

Haha! You're so right! Compared to the 90's team, where I was scrabbling about trying to remember at least someone with a bit of quality, the 80's team was incredible. Quality everywhere.

If it wasn't for Roberts being in the team, I'd say we still had a soft centre.
