How far down can I make the 'thumbs down' sign for this absurd splitting of the off-topic boards? To my knees? To the floor? Down into the earth, until it hits bedrock? That's still not far enough. I don't know if my opinion goes with the minority or majority here, but I think the splitting of 4 off-topic boards into what, a dozen smaller subforums is absolutely horrendous, needless, and the furthest thing from user-friendly.
Hearing 'use My Bigsoccer' won't make it any better. Of the OT boards, the one I checked the most was MVBM, and I really liked how I could find something interesting about things I wasn't really up on (movies, videos) while checking up on things I follow more (music, books). Now that it's split, I've got to go trawling through 2 or 3 different forums. PITA. Don't even get me started on what was the amiable chaos of FFA - I didn't participate there much, but there were interesting things now and then. Now it's splitting all over the place? Again, PITA. Things were a lot more loose and fun when they were disorganized.

As a 'Premium Member', here's what I'd like, Huss; SuperThread. I want (if there's a way to do it), the option to switch my Bigsoccer screen over so that I get ONE forum only, in which every new/replied to thread goes directly into. Kind of like a big, all-encompassing, automatic Bigsoccer Live. So what if there's a bunch of threads I don't want to see there? It would be infinitely better than wasting my time clicking all over creation, which is what you've got me doing now.

    Fully agreed.

I don't want a superthread, but I also don't want 800 categories in the NSR section. Obviously it's worthwhile to try new things, but this just is not the thing to do.

When I saw "Advice", "Current Events" and "Cars" this morning, I knew that the thread-splitting had gone too far.

OK, after thinking about it for a couple of minutes, here's my suggestion for the NSR category:

    1. Blogs (BSSM, B@W, etc.)
    2. The Arts
    3. Politics / Current Events
    4. Other Sports
    5. Technology
    6. FFA, aka everything else -- once something here moves beyond a given number of posts, it goes into Blogs.

I kinda like Food and Travel, but they're not big enough topics here to justify their own boards. This is, first and foremost, a soccer board.

So I take it you guys don't approve of my proposal to add a "Knitting and Needlepoint" forum, separate of course from the "Sewing" forum?

Like it says: "Interesting experiment" that can be pulled back anytime, all you have to do is speak up, which you ar doing.

however if you have a blog fourm PLEASE dont touch the blogs in FCM, the whole point of the FCM blogs is to have a blog for the womens posters to talk amoungst themselves and whadda know alot of the KK thread IS soccer related.

i agree way too many off topic fourms

    id keep food personally.

what is the difference between politics and current events?

travel...are you talking soccer travel which i know used to have a fourm in MLS or are you talking travel travel. methinks the top soccer boards should have a travel fourm for soccer related travel disscussion and offers.

whats the difference between B&M and the B&F boards?

otherwise i agree with the other posters here.

Within a few weeks, it will be obvious whih threads are being utilized. Then we get rid of the ones that aren't. Problem solved.

    Just another opinion:

Merge Current Events with Politics. Most news events with a political angle get moved there anyway.

Keep the Food forum as its own entity. Seems to have a lot of interest this far.

I may be off base, but I don't see a proliferation of threads on Travel and Arts that require separate forums.

But I am young and impudent. I have no time to wait for aesthetically pleasing forums!

It was perfect the way it was, as far as I'm concerned.

I like this. I also like the idea of moving thread to Blogs that have a certian ammount of posts. But like was mentioned, I think it should be limited to NSR forum. The women's threads that are long, should stay there (I mean this is a positive way, not in an uninclusive way).

Somehow food and travel should be incorporated into a forum. Perhaps, Food, Travel, and the Arts. Or maybe Food and the Arts along with Travel and Technology. Or perhaps instead of using "The Arts," Entertainment might be more appropiate.

Well, for me, I like having Music separate from TV. I'm not sure I like having it separated from Movies, though. I'm glad I no longer have to wade through the Buffy, et al, type threads since I don't watch much tv.

However, I don't really want to have to look all over creation, which has been my gripe ever since the splitting stuff started a couple of years ago.

The blogs idea is a good one. I believe I've seen you mention that one before.

I think the biggest problem with a combined Politics / Current Events problem is that every thread might turn into some sort of partisan bickering (I should talk, right?), and some people don't really want to get in to that.

I actually like having a separate Music and Movies section, because threads stay active longer. Which means if obie sees a movie or a concert in NYC and I don't see it in the Dirty Dirty for a month or so, that thread is still relatively easy to find. I might merge Movies and TV, though.

The Food one is obviously popular, as is Travel. I like being able to find certain recipes on the Food board (good salsa, GringoTex).

Advice, Car and even Science and Technology may be too "niche". Although, as someone else pointed out, the Tech board would be a good repository for info about DirecTv, Tivo...stuff like that.

    I can't believe I typed this much.

The biggest problem, though, is that I don't control the Current Events forum.

As the person partially responsible for one of these "blogs", I'd rather stay in FFA. A regular, long thread like that...I'd say that decision should be up to the people that post in it, no?

Perhaps, but for those of us who don't post in BBSM or whatnot, it gets annoying.

I thought that Tech would be more popular than it has been -- time to dump it, along with Cars and Advice.

Politics are current events of a political nature. Bush's latest speech, a Congressman's latest indiscretion or the current war for example. Almost all politics topics are current events, but not all current events are political. The Smart girl being found is a good example. The sniper shootings last year. Those are current events of a non-political nature, and as such would likely fit better in their own forum, or merged in FFA, where they wouldn't get caught in the crossfire of the liberals and conservatives in Politics.

In any set ot taxonomic categories, there are lumpers and splitters. Usually there is some sort of compromise. I do think that the Free For All was becoming a bit of a wastebasket, but I agree that we now have far too many NSR threads. I bet about half of them will simply disappear through non-use in the coming month.

At any given moment, BSSM, RT, B@W, Panic's, and or Ask House could be the top five based on regularity. Quite often, when I make my first post of the day (at about 6:30am) 2 or 3 of the five are at the top. A bit annoying if I'm looking for something different (and I am a regular in the B@W thread).

geordie, what's wrong with moving a thread after 1500 posts, or what ever the criteria becomes.

The travel forum is great. Please keep it. Actually, I like the new break down, even though I'll probably never look at some of them. I fail to understand what people don't like. Is it not possible to scroll past forums that aren't interesting? I do that with numerous forums every time I log on to Bigsoccer.
