Here's what a quick google search turned up: TFC Academy FAQ http://web.mlsnet.com/t280/youth/academy/faq/ They're hoiding open tryouts soon, you'll need to have your coach submit a letter of recommendation to get an invite: http://toronto.fc.mlsnet.com/news/t...id=7905334&vkey=news_t280&fext=.jsp&team=t280
My thanks for a prompt response, I see my Google skills leave much to be desired. As do my goal kicks, sadly. Thanks for the help.
Those FAQ's are from 2008. A player born in 1990 will be 20 years old this year and therefore too old for the U18 squad.
Doh! The second link was from 2010. I might try calling up the club to get more recent info. There's a general contact number here: http://web.mlsnet.com/t280/about/contact/
^ Not your fault Pete, they should really update that info. They're usually pretty good with Academy news and rosters etc.
TFCA made it to the QF's of the 2010 Dallas Cup before bowing out. After winning their group they faced the eventual U19 Group winners Chorrillo FC of Panama in the QF's. TFC went down to 10 men early in the game and fell to the Panamanians 1-0. Chorrillo defeated Solar FC in the semi's and Shattuck/St. Mary's in the final.
Toronto FC senior youth squad begin the 2010 CSL season with a 1-0 over Portugal FC. Defender Doneil Herny gave the team the win with a goal 12 minutes from time, the rest of the story is in the link. http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2010/05/henry-gives-academy-win
Week 2 of the CSL saw the Senior side lose 2-1 to new club FC Hamilton Croatia with Nicholas Lindsay scoring consolation goal for Toronto FC Academy. Next game is vs Brampton Lions at BMO on May 22nd. Also the 24th minute website did a little interview with Academy manager Stuart Neely who talks about the kids and singled out 3 players who have MLS potential which is Doniel Henry CB, Allando Matheson F and Matt Stinson CM. Link to the interview for those interested http://www.24thminute.com/2010/05/no-show-tonight.html
Henry and Matheson are pretty much slam dunks, management would have to be blind to not sign these kids.
I believe Matheson was one of the top scorers in the CSL last season wasn't he? I am surprised with the lack of bodies we have we wouldn't bring up one player to have on the 1st team though with a new manager in Preki I assume he would want to get a look into the player and see if any of them will fit into the team. Also believe both Herny and Stinson are called up with the u20 national camp.
Interesting looking through the first group of players from the 2008 season with the Senior boys side and finding out where they are now. Player I did find through google were playing in the CSL with another club, CIS or NCAA Here is a list of former youth players I found still playing the game.
Gino Mauro is with AS Pro Belvedere in the Italian Serie C2, he was loaned out to Dethrona of Serie D this past season. Lucas Birnstingl played for Dundee U19 this past season.
Didn't we also use to have a Fierra kid who ended up going to play for Porto youth team and Portugal youth set up?
Ricardo Ferreira, but he's a '92 and was with the U16 team the first season. He left in August '08 to join Porto and ended up playing for the Portuguese U17's. He wasn't listed on any Porto youth squads this year though...
I imagine so, especially this year since NCAA changed it's eligibility rules so that Ibrahim could play with the Academy team without f@cking up the Academy players' NCAA eligibility. I know last year Amadou Sanyang played for the Academy until he was eligible for TFC.
I'm about 99.9% sure he hasn't. He's also no longer eligible to play for the Academy (he's born in '91 and the cut off is '92).
Toronto Fc academy won on the weekend 3-0 over the Brampton Lions at BMO. Goals were scored by Matheson, Lindsay and Janniere. Keeper Angelo Cavalluzzo got the clean sheet.
This weekend the guys lost 1-0 to the York Region Shooters. Rumors going around that some of the academy played might get some time mid-week vs Vancouver.
Forgot to post this when it was announced: http://www.torontofc.ca/news/2010/05/tfc-announces-major-soccer-initiatives TORONTO FC UNVEILS CLUB ACADEMY PROGRAM Toronto FC announced Friday the creation of its Club Academy Program (CAP) – a technical partnership with progressive youth clubs in Ontario that meet Toronto FC’s standards for elite player development. The goal of the newly launched program is to provide a stable and continuous path of development for young, elite players from their introduction to the game to full-time professionals with Toronto FC. In keeping with the CSA’s Wellness to World Cup – long term player development model, the CAP promotes the need to target the training habits and environment of elite players in Ontario while creating a collective of full-time soccer coaches and managers whose primary goal is the development of players and coaches. “This is a major step forward in helping to groom young talented soccer players and their coaches”, said director of the Academy Earl Cochrane. “Our plan has always been to find a way to influence the environment with which young players currently train and play and we feel this is the first step of many toward that. In addition, we have always wanted to go younger as an Academy and this is a far more progressive step than adding a team or two to the Toronto FC stable of teams.” Working in coordination with the Toronto FC Academy, the CAPs will demand a premium level of training that will allow for involved players, ages 7 to 16, to be monitored and scouted in hopes of joining the Toronto FC Academy as full-time members. The CAPs will create training environments that simulate the professional experience that Toronto FC’s current Academy teams are accustomed to, and through club cooperation, will allow for friendly competition and collaboration for additional scouting opportunities. In addition, an exchange of coaching information, workshops and seminars will be provided to the participating clubs. “We have so much talent in our province and across Canada but are losing them at influential ages and therefore need to find ways to help promote the game and their development,” said Academy manager and junior team head coach Stuart Neely. “We also cannot forget how much of an influence coaches and the training environments have on all aspects of a player’s development and it’s important that our programs influence that in a positive way.” The following programs are the first to join the CAP: Barrie SC, Bryst International, Capital United SC (Ottawa), Cavan FC, Pickering SC, Nepean Hotspurs SC, Thunder Bay Chill, and Unionville-Milliken SC. Several other clubs have expressed interest and will likely be added to the CAP in Phase 2 (late summer/early fall 2010).
Allando Matheson, Matt Stinson and Doneil Harvey are the lads most likely to get a run-out for TFC vs. the Whitecaps. They are easily the most talented lads in the TFC Academy right now. That would make sense too as they are the three TFC Academy players currently on the Canadian U-20 team despite all of them being 18 y/o or younger.
The players called up are: Matthew Stinson Doneil Henry Nicholas Lindsay Allando Matheson Brennan McNicoll Oscar Cordon Sergio Camargo Preki will decide on Wednesday which will be included on the matchday roster.
