Hey guys - some people were talking to me about going to Toronto at the Chicago game and I was curious how that stuff is usually handled. Mary and I (possibly some others) will take the Train from Windsor to Toronto - so its an easy 4 hour trip for us. How does away tickets get handled? Do the Supporter Groups call and reserve a block of tickets in the same section? This will be my first "away game" and I just want to be prepared. Thanks!
Re: Toronto Away Game Bradd, HHM will be getting info on this soon. I started a thread on this early last week and Mike said he was going get info from the TFC office. I'm assuming that he is busy and will get this stuff soon. Mods, can you combine the two threads, or delete the previous one. Bradd, we tried to get a bus together for the last game but were unable to get enough commitment to it so people had to drive themselves. There was also a lot of confusion on who to pay, blah blah blah. But this time around it should be more organized and hopefully better attended. I don't want TFC fans in our section.
Re: Toronto Away Game Well no matter what we won't be driving with you. I'll buy the tickets however we are supposed to so that Mary and I are in the Crew Supporters Section but we can just take the train to Toronto from Windsor. Its a 4 hour train ride and is only like 60 bucks.
Re: Toronto Away Game We had tickets available through CrewUnion.com and I believe HSH had their own ticket allottment as well. You can select the option to buy the bus package or purchase just the ticket. I'm sure it will be the same way this time around.
Re: Toronto Away Game I take it we need a passport now as well? Haven't been that way since 9/11, but I assume you can't just show them your Burger King Kids Club card to get back in anymore...
Re: Toronto Away Game Drivers license and a birth certificate are OK for now, but I think that changes next year.
Re: Toronto Away Game Summer of 09 it changes. We can still get to Windsor just fine on birth certificate and drivers license. If you have the spare change though I would recommend getting one, a passport does make things at the border easier.
Re: Toronto Away Game Border Patrol stopped my brother and I for about 20 minutes. He doesn't have a passport, just his drivers license and birth certificate. They questioned the authenticity of it and questioned us on why we would only be in the country for 8 hours. I guess they didn't understand travelling to see a soccer match. In short, yes, it does help to get a passport to cross the border. Besides, you will have to get it for next season so why not just get it now.
Re: Toronto Away Game I remember the good ol' days of the late 90's when us college could go over to Winsor with just our drivers liscenses. Sometimes not even that just: Security: What's your nationality Driver: "US" *security looks at other passengers in car* Passenger "US" Passengers in back seat: *rolls down window* "US" Security: What's your reason for coming to Canada, eh? (okay so they never actually said "eh") Driver: "Casino" or "Going to *insert name of club/bar*" Security: *Waves hand indicating we can go* It was definately that way coming back, rarely had to even show Drivers Liscenses. Anyway definately never needed a birth certificate.
Re: Toronto Away Game I'm sorry that it's taken so long to get info on this, guys. I've been out of town a lot here lately for military stuff and I'm also getting stonewalled by the Toronto front office right now due to the failure to get many people up there for the earlier game in the season. I'll let you know as soon as I get some more info. Hopefully it'll be soon as I know we're gonna start running into the same issues that we ran into last time. All I can say is start saving if you want to go. If you're planning to go and saving for it now, it won't be as hard when you find the price and we won't have whining about finding out the price late.
Re: Toronto Away Game Bump. Any new information Mike? Or should we just email the person Shawn mentioned on his blog?
Re: Toronto Away Game I talked to Tornoto this morning during one of my breaks at work. They are not giving the Union any tickets for this match. They have told me that they're already working through the other guy with the full support of the Crew FO. So that's that. If you want to go to Toronto on a bus, contact the other guy. I'm now on to working on the Chicago trip.
Re: Toronto Away Game Thanks for the information. And you answered my next question about a Chicago trip.
Re: Toronto Away Game I read the Dispatch Crew blog but didn't see what everyone is referencing? Who is heading up the Toronto away trip? Any indication why no tix are being released to the Union?
Re: Toronto Away Game I have spoken with Allen Skaggs and he started planning a bus trip to Toronto after his son expressed interest in going. He contacted the Toronto FO and the Crew FO with his plan for the trip and they decided to endorse it. Neither HSH or the Union was contacted and asked to particpate in the planning of the trip and thus we have nothing to do with it. The supporters groups were under the impression that they were going to be involved with the planning of the trip but that didn't happen. Here are the details of Allen's trip Meet at Crew Stadium at 6:00 am on Saturday, September 13th Vehicles can be left in the Stadium parking lot Leave on 54 passenger Luxury Tour Bus (high back & reclining seats, TV's and a lavatory) at 6:30 am SHARP. Box lunches by "Café del Mundo". Arrive in Toronto at BMO Field at approximately 2:00 pm Game kickoff at 3:30 pm (tailgating is illegal in Toronto - you can have refreshments on the bus while we wait) After the game we would take the bus to the hotel (still being determined which hotel - minimum 3 star, maybe 4 star) for check-in A packet with information on local attractions will be provided (hopefully some coupons and free admissions) Everyone is on their own for the evening's activities - I can help make arrangements for excursions upon request Checkout and leave hotel at approximately 11:00 am Return to Crew Stadium at approximately 7:00 pm Prices Single: $299.00 Double: $235.00 Triple: $215.00 Quad: $199.00 Included: Ticket to the game, Hotel room based on room occupancy above (taxes and fees are included), Transportation to and from Toronto, a list of some nightlife/attractions in Toronto for after the game (hopefully some coupons), a box lunch with drinks on the bus trip to Toronto and a good time for everyone. Notes: This road trip can only happen at this price if we can get at least 45 people to guarantee that they are going. I need to collect the deposit of $150 by July 25th. The remainder is due by August 5th. Late reservations will incur a surcharge of $25.00, if space is still available. You must specify who you are sharing a room with. Contact him through the email I posted earlier if you are interested
Re: Toronto Away Game I'm still trying to work with the Crew FO to get the remaining tickets for the supporters groups.
Re: Toronto Away Game Do you know what time the bus tour will have us back at our retirement home? Lawrence Welk comes on at 7 pm...
Re: Toronto Away Game I know this may not matter to everybody but will for a good number of people going. There is a little game that night being played between tOSU and USC. Any plans being made to watch it somewhere? tOSU Alumni Toronto?
Re: Toronto Away Game July 25th! That should have been posted a hell of a lot sooner than now. Well, I hope they get enough people to sign up. HOw have they been getting the word out?
