I was just thinking about it the other night. If MLS and the A-league get together, they could form a joint venture with the A-league and have about 2 or 3 Canadian teams playing in MLS for a season, and the Canadian team with the worst record in mls gets replaced by a Canadian team in the A-League with the best record. I think this would be a good idea considering the fact that they don't seem to want to make their own league and 2 Canadian teams just folded from the A-league.
Yes, but the people behind the Toronto stadium (namely the CSA and the CFL Argonauts are the ones pushing for MLS. The Montreal and Vancouver A-League owners (who are both rich enough to sustain an MLS franchise) have both said that they want no part of MLS at this time.
Yes. So they (CSA and Toronto Argonauts of the CFL) partnered with a NEW University (York) in north Toronto. Now everything is "on again" with the stadium expected to open in 2006. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Co...le&cid=1098136210284&call_pageid=970599119419 http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=1931 Drawings... http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/stadium/index.asp?sub2=3
I am sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseum else where... Would a Canadian franchise adhere to the same rules as MLS teams in the U.S.? Would they be required to field a team of Americans? Or would they field a team made up of Canadians? It would be a good idea for the MLS and for any Canadian franchise to field a team of Canadians.
Also, would toronto have nasty CFL lines all over it? Ive had about enough of those type of stadiums in MLS already..
I would hope that it would improve their chances. And Detroit's chances as well. We need derbies dammit.
I would actually like to see more than just one Canadian team in MLS. Maybe we could have Seattle and Toronto in 2006 and Vancouver and Houston in 2007. Canadian soccer won't benefit much from only having one team...they need two teams to really have any effect.
Am I the only one that doesn't want any Canadian teams in MLS? In soccer, leagues usually involve just one country, its so American sport to add Canadian teams.
Toronto and Vancouver. That is one derby. (The Canadian Cup) Then, if we get Detroit and Rochester... you've got natural rivals with Toronto. Also, Seattle and Vancouver.... (Fifty-Four Forty or Fight Cup) And Rochester and Metrostars (New York Cup) And Metrostars and Cosmos.... (New York City Cup) Oh, I got a little ahead of myself there.
As long as numerous US cities deserving of an MLS team continue to not have one I will not support having a Canadian team in MLS.
