10) Superman: the man of steel (XBOX) A major disappointment. Why can't someone just make a GTA style game but with Superman and all his powers? Nonetheless the game is still fun and has great graphics....it's too bad it's just a bunch of timed missions against an army of robots. 9) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (Playstation 2) I have issues with the violence, but I'm not going to debate that with anyone right now. Setting aside my moral dillemna with this game, the game is a technical marvel. As a former Miami resident though, I must say it's not an accurate model of the city. The soundtrack is awesome too, featuring suprises like the Psychedelic Furs "Love my Way" and Whodini's "Mr. Magic's rap attack" and that's not even mentioning Thomas Dolby's "Hyperactive". 8) Rez (Playstation 2) This game came out in 2001 for the Sega Dreamcast in Europe but came out in 2002 in limited edition this year in th US for the PS2. A bizarre but imaginativre shooting game where everything you shoot morphs into something else and it's sort of like a bright color etch a sketch game with cool techno music. The game is named after an Underworld song. 7) Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 (Xbox, Playstation 2, Gamecube, ps1) I'm not a huge skateboarding fan but this game is damn fun. You have several different sort of competitions and a lot of freedom and "open skating". 6) Resident Evil: Zero (Gamecube) The best and scariest of the bunch. I was going to put eternal darkness in my top 10 but I got realy bored with that game near the end. 5) FIFA 2003 (Xbox, Playstation 2, Gamecube, PS1, PC) The best FIFA ever, by a long shot, with stunning graphics and improved gameplay. 4) Superman: Shadow of Apocalypse (Playstation 2) Superman fans will love this. It's not perfect and still isn't the ultimate Superman title, but it's good nonetheless. 3) Spiderman (Playstation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, PC) The best superhero game ever made. The xbox has 2 extra levels too. 2) NBA 2k3 (Xbox, Ps2, Gamecube, Ps1) The greatest basketball title ever by a long shot. In the basketball world this game has the same kind of following that Winning Eleven 6 has in the football world. 1) MLS Extra Time 2002 Simply the best soccer simulation ever released in the U.S.......until March of 2003. Games that maybe should have been on my list: Hitman 2: I didn't play this game enough for a fair assesment but seemed great. Winning Eleven 6 / Pro Evolution Soccer 2: This isn't avalable in the US yet (I have the import) so I didn't think it was fair to put in. Sega Sports Tennis: I didn't put this on because it was on the Dreamcast for a long portion of 2001. Rez ame out at the tail end of 2001 so I thought it was ok. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Probably one of the best games ever made, But I only played the first 3 missions thus far. Steel Battalion: An incredible concept and maybe the most technicly impressive game ever - but I have yet to play it for the xbox. Wipeout Fusion: I wasn't sure if this was 2001 or 2002. games I am most looking forward to in 2003 Soul Calibur 2 Winning Eleven 6 House of the Dead 3 FIFA 2004
What? No Battlefield 1942? If you haven't played that and your comp can handle it, do so now. I spent all morning bombing enemy bases with my plane and getting into dogfights with other planes. It's freaking amazing.
I got a XBox Ted. Should I go buy extra time 2002 or wait until March? And what game would I be waiting for? So far I have the two games that came with and they are ok/good. NCAA Football 2003 which is amazing and NCAA Basketball 2k3 which I really haven't gotten into yet. BTW, which is the best mod chip? I have a Pioneer 105 DVD burner.
if you like MLS then go buy it. It's only $30 retail anyway. However, Konami Soccer games like this one are a love/hate type thing. Some people complain that the controls are too stiff and the graphics are subpar. Others swear up and down that Konami makes the most realistic soccer experience you can find in a videogame. I am with that crowd, I think it's the ultimate game. In march, a game called Winning Eleven 6 is coming out for the playstation 2 only. It is similar to MLS extra time but it has only European and a few South American clubs (no MLS) and it has a bunch of little things the MLS game doesn't have. It is also made by Konami. If you only have an Xbox then I'd go with MLS extra time in a heart beat. as for mod chips, I know they exist but I don't know much about them. the ps2 can play burned media but the xbox doesn't. If I were you I'd also go and get Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell which by all accounts is one of the best videogames ever made. IGN.COM rated it a 9.6 out of 10 and it's only on Xbox and PC.
Absolutely!       When the game first hit stores, it was pretty good but the singleplayer was a bit buggy. However, now that both the 1.2 patch and the v3.6 Merciless Historic Addon mod and texture packs have been released, I can honestly say that Battlefield 1942 has been transformed into one of the best games I have ever played... and for an old geezer like me, that's really saying something!       So after installing your copy of Battlefield 1942, download and install these goodies, in the following order:       Battlefield 1942 North American 1.2 Patch       http://www.ea.com/eagames/official/battlefield1942/editorial/bf1942_12patch.jsp       Coral Sea map (official map)       http://www.ea.com/eagames/official/battlefield1942/gamedemo.jsp?state=1111       Merciless Historic Addon mod (Version 3.6)       http://www.fileplanet.com/files/110000/114044.shtml       (bare in mind, though, that Version 3.7 is due to be released any day now)       Merciless Texture Sets Version 1.0       http://www.fileplanet.com/files/110000/117796.shtml       Merciless Texture Sets - Battle of the Bulge - Texture Pack       http://www.fileplanet.com/files/110000/117797.shtml       (an Operation Market Garden Texture Pack is also due to be released any day now)       Trust me - you won't regret it! -G
Check out Hitman 2 again. I have it on the PS2 and it's an amazing game. Not the most ethical of games, but aside from that it is amazing. The missions aren't too easy and they can't really be done using a hack and slash or really shoot and run style. Every move should be planned to minimize effort. There is more thought to be put into how to best accomplish each mission then in most other games I've played. Easily more thought then completing the missions in GTA:VC. Also an excellent game, but 2 different styles. Both with their own rewards. For football fans, Madden 2003 was one of the best football games ever. I stopped playing video football but picked this one up on a whim. Played it for about 2 months straight. ran up 45 conssec. wins with the 49ers. Then GTA:VC came out and I stopped playing it. Sly Cooper and the Thevious Racoonus is also a great game for the PS2. Really simple concept and style, but hard and fun. NHL 2003 was the biggest disappointment this year for me. Gameplay was horrible, graphics were choppy and the loadtime was a burden. Looking forward to Devil May Cry 2 and The Getaway. If Final Fantasy 12 makes it Stateside in 2003, then I'll abandon my life for another 2 months to complete that game.

Carnt be botherd with a top 10 so i will do a top 3 of my fav games of 2002. 3 - Emperor: Rise of the middle Kingdom. (PC) 2 - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) 1 - Championship Manager 2001/02 season (PC) I may of had it for the last 18 or so months but this game is amazing i dont know where I would be without it. A special mention also goes to Alex the Kid in Wonderland land i think for the Sega Master System II. I found this in my loft and i hammerd it for a day. great entertainment.
My Top Three #1 - FIFA Soccer 2003 - It's the best for now at least until that WE6 comes out in March. I've got to buy it to see what the big deal is. On FIFA 2003, I've won the Treble twice on the trot in professional mode with NUFC and on my way to winning it a third time in world class. #2 - Sega Sports Tennis - Good tennis sim. World Tour mode allows you to create a player, go through (a lot of) training, and take on the world's best. Your player sucks at first, but gets better over time. With early victory earnings, you can buy better equipment and hire good doubles partners. #3 - WRC - I love FIA World Rally Championship racing. Beats the hell out of all of those left-turn-only NASCAR races.
My biggest disappointment of the year was Unreal Tournament 2003. Epic basically did away with everything that made the old UT engine unique - the game now looks, feels, and plays way too much like it's the latest installment of Quake. It's not an Unreal game.
Oh yeah, my top three... 01. Championship Manager 2001/2002 (PC) 02. NCAA College Football 2003 (XBOX) 03. FIFA 2003 (PC)
I actually like Unreal Tournament 2003 (no offense).       UT2k3 did seem somewhat different from UT when I first played it, but it has pretty much grown on me. I can't really say how it compares to Quake, though, since I've never played any of the Quake games (although I have played two games based on the Quake III engine - Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force and Return to Castle Wolfenstein - although I'm sure that the gameplay of those two games are rather different from Quake).       Besides, many new good fan-made maps are being made for the game all the time, some which are even better than some of the official maps. And some new game modes are being devised as well to join the ones already in the game (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Double Domination, and Bombing Run)... two in particular that are really good are DeathBall (which is very soccer-like) and King of the Hill.       And an official bonus pack for the game is on its way soon, replete with several new maps, game modes, different announcer voices you can choose from, etc.       My only big complaint about UT2k3 was that there was no Assault Mode (one of my favorite modes) included like there was in UT. However, it seems like someone is working on that even as we speak (type?). -G
Geez... after all that effort I put into posting the separate links of the Merciless Historic Addon-on mod files for Battlefield 1942, the Merciless mod-makers decided to consolidate all of them onto one page!       http://www.bf1942files.com/file.stuff?body=MercilessCreations       It seems like they've taken down the link for the Operation Market Garden Texture Pack to work on it a bit more - from what I hear, though, the revised version should be available for download within the next few days. -G
1. Civilization III (PC) The best game series of all time, hands down 2. CM 01/02 (PC) The best sports game series of all time, hands down 3. Hitman II: Silent Assassin (PS/2) GTA went into the dustbin after this game arrived. 4. FIFA 2003 (PS/2) Too bad they didn't have the gameplay of '03 in FIFA WC 5. Medal of Honor: Frontline (PS/2) Honorable Mention- Burnout 2: Point of Impact (PS/2) For realism fans, this isn't the driving game for you. But it sure is a hell of a lot of fun, especially crash mode.
Oh, forgot about Civ III. Now my list is, 1) CM 01/02 (PC) 2) Civ III (PC) 3) NCAA College Football 2003 (XBOX)
My video game playing decreased significantly this year, so I've only got 5. In no particular order: Metroid Prime (Gamecube): This game is incredible. Graphics, story, powerups, level design, character designs, music, sound effects, everything is so good. The only thing it is missing is a way to aim while moving, and thanks to its otherwise effortless control system, this is a minor complaint. ESPN MLS Extratime 2002 (Gamecube): Best soccer game I've played, but still loses points for not being able to create players and add them to MLS rosters, for not being able to play a franchise mode with more than 1 player controlled team, and for an extremely limited transfer/trade feature. Still, game play is smooth and incredibly dramatic. Major points for that! Timesplitters 2 (Gamecube): An excellent fast moving shooter with incredible depth. It only loses points with me for the cartoony (even more so than Timesplitters 1) characters and the unbelievably frustrating difficulty of some of the challenges and levels. Neverwinter Nights (PC): The game itself is ok, but go online for FREE and check out what the NWN community has created. This is a never ending game because people are always making new adventures/creatures/tilesets/etc. for it. And did I mention online play is FREE (other than what you already pay to be on the internet). Eternal Darkness (Gamecube): Could've been a Resident Evil copy and thankfully it was not. A surprisingly deep game with many interesting twists, chief among them being the insanity effects. A very nice surprise. Honorable mentions: Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube): Sure it doesn't do anything revolutionary like Super Mario 64 did before it, but it is fun and has never looked as gorgeous as it does on the Gamecube. Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast (Gamecube): Major points for being able to grab a lightsaber and bisect those who would stand in your way. More points for great graphics, sound effects, and music. Loses points for less than stellar control schemes and that you can only do 2 player mutiplayer. What is Lucasarts problem with giving us 4-way play on console games? Lord of the Rings The Two Towers (PS2): I only rented it, and unfortunately didn't get to play it very much. I think the control style takes some getting used to. It seemed to have potential, and a fair amount of depth. Maybe it deserves another look.
i completely forgot about civ 3, too. but my top is still gta vice city and then civ 3. i usually nominate high heat baseball series but not this year coz they haven't changed much since they released hh 2000 and contain at least a few bugs.
iirc this game is KINDA intended for girls. in japan you could buy an additional piece of hardware for this game. it was a little pad that vibrated. the further you got in the game you more vibrations and rhythms it would do. i saw a report on it by some girl who tested it. and yes it did vibrate for that reason.
Okay, you missed two crucial games: BF1942 and UT2K3. Too bad i don't have a good enough video card for that but a pwning system.
Biggest disappointment for me was UT2k3. I used to play the original UT for hours at a sitting it was so addictive. UT2k3 just feels like an average shooter with pretty graphics. The weapons are weak, there aren't enough redeemers, they somehow managed to make the netcode worse, and there just aren't enough decent servers (because of the aforementioned faults). I still play it on occassion, but I don't think it will be on my hard drive in three years, while the original UT will be.
Another really neat game that has been overlooked by many (perhaps because it only hit stores in December) is Iron Storm.       I just bought it recently and so far I've been enjoying it a lot. While the graphics are a generation or so behind current FPS's like Unreal Tournament 2003 (another really cool game!), the story and atmosphere are so immersive that the graphics work just fine (similarly to Deus Ex).       So far, this has been the funnest alternate-history game set in the past that I've played since Crimson Skies. -G
Amazing, considering this is a soccer site, that the most realistic and challenging soccer management game hasn't been mentioned: Sick as a Parrot (SaaP)
