Name the best team EVER from each country. Spain: Real Madrid (no doubt) Italy: AC Milan (altough Juventus has more domestic leagues, AC milan is far more sucessfull in european competitions) England: Liverpool (great results domesticaly and in europe) Germany: Bayern (no argument about this) France: Marseille Portugal: FC Porto (22 vs 31 leagues of benfica, but 3 european cups in the last 20 years, and domesticaly dominant in the last 30 years) Netherlands: Ajax (no question about it) ...
You're not consistent. If it's to be the best team EVER, then Porto may have been dominant in the last 30 years, Benfica is still the best in Portugal. They also dominated Europe for a number of years, which Porto has never been able to do. You don't question Ajax and you're right (even though in the past 30 years there is remarkably little difference between Ajax and PSV's list of successes. The same should be true for Benfica in Portugal.
are youc razy? Juventus has had way the more success EVER than AC Milan, if you don't count domestic championships then don't put this up, put IN European Competition, because Juventus has been more of a successful club in the long run, sorry.
I am consistent. I made what u might call euristic with poderated weight proporcional calculations. Its like the way uefa calculates some coeficients: 0.1 x 5yr ago + 0.2 x 4 yr ago + 0.3 x 3 yr ago + 0.4 x 2 yr ago + 0.5 x 1 last yr. / 1.5 I dont value so much the ancient european cups, league titles and even world cup. Like the 2 uruguay won, those were diferent times, now with the globalization of football, bosman law, european comunity, mediatization and re-organization of international competitions, its all much more professionalized and valued. Every one is free to make their own judgement for instance of the value of a champions league in the current format, or of a champions cup (old format), where only 1 team from each major country participated while now there are 3 and 4 of each. For me its like the 50's + 60's x 0.15 + 70-85 x 0.3 + 0.25 x 85-95 + 0.3 x 95-2005, empiricaly of course.
I'm sure there are many fancy formulas that will say Porto are the best in Portugal, but Porto still haven't dominated Europe in the way that Benfica did.
Spain: Real Madrid Italy: Juventus and milan are very close on this one England: Liverpool Germany: Bayern France: Marseille Portugal: Benfica Netherlands: Ajax
Benfica is the top team in Portugal in terms of football history. It's the club with more domestic titles by a large margin, league and cup, and has played 8 European finals. In the 60's it was an European powerhouse having played 5 European Champions Club's Cup finals in 8 years, including three in a row 61-63. FC Porto won one European Champions Club's Cup and one Champions League as underdogs. Huge difference imo.
Thanks for the good laugh. What's really funny is that even with your formula, Benfica would still come-out on top.

I think alot of people overlook St-Etienne, simply because they achieved the bulk of their success in the 60's and 70's. Marseille: 8 league titles, 10 cup wins, 1 league cup, 1 European Cup... St-Etienne: 10 league titles, 6 cup wins, 2 league cups L'OM would edge it with the CL win in 93. One major regret for St-Etienne is the fact they never won a European Cup. That said, France has only ever produced two teams to have won European trophies (one being L'OM, the other, the mighty PSG. ) But hey, at least Les Verts never bought a European Cup like Tapie.

Go easy on the guy. He's a Porto fan. You don't really expect him to state that Benfica is the best ever from Portugal now do you? Although, I have to say, Benfica has the most fans all over the world. The last I checked there were 432.5 million! (Inside joke for all the Portistas reading this thread.)
