Well, given his form of late this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Then again he was important in 2013 in the qualification games...

According to Spanish journalists quoted by a Brazilian source (Terra.com.br) Diego Costa is only going to the WC because del Bosque had promised him that he'd take him if he renounced the Brazilian team. Now, with Diego Costa injured and not 100% physically, any other player in his physical situation would have been left behind, but del Bosque felt that he had to honor his promise.

(I do hope that this will come back to bite both del Bosque and Costa, hehehe)

On related news, the Portuguese coach is very mad at Read Madrid, saying that he received Cristiano Ronaldo in pitiful physical condition after Real overworked him and allowed no time for him to recover from various injuries.

Montolivo apparently suffered a serious injury in today's friendly with Ireland.
    What a pity!

thats a shame because i got a feeling that the same thing that happened to Diego Costa with Atletico where they thought he could play and wasn't will end up happening, so why not take players who are 100% fit like llorente or negredo

Seydou Doumbia of CSKA Moscow axed from the final Cote d'Ivoire squad. Clubwise he is the most efficient striker in Europe, but his national career is forgettable.

Lanky giant Lacine Traore (Monaco / Everton) also gets cut.

Reportedly Ribery will be fit within a week ... maybe even play in France's friendly with Jamaica.

We were prepared for this; it hurts because we wanted a man like him to be at least part of the squad even if he would not play a lot; his name deserves to be in history that he represented us at the WC.

But hey, we have to be optimistic for the future and accept it...

Sad about Falcao, but it's not surprising given the type of injury and surgery he had.

Good news about Ribery. Hopefully we'll get to watch him play. Also good news that Suarez looks like he'll probably be ready to go.

It was actually his own choice; he could have gone if he wanted (time between now and after the group stage) and would have a better fitness level. But he felt guilty taking up a spot if another player was 100%. He's very humble.

Real Madrid overworked him? Yeah, he played 50+ matches this season, but when your club wins the Champions League and the domestic cup, that's pretty much guaranteed to happen. If anybody, Bento should be blaming UEFA for scheduling the Champion's League Final so late in a World Cup year, and/or FIFA for scheduling the World Cup so early in June. FIFA could've easily started the WC a week later without causing anybody any problems.
