I know it's just too difficult to find the FK for Didi, Garrincha, Rivelino and Pele in Brazil huh? Unless you have a real good connection to those oldtimer in Brazil?

It is even difficult. My source are analyzes of old newspapers... and things only get easier starting in the 1970s. Before, aren't the good analyzes and the quality of the newspaper (digitally) is poor, making it difficult to read.

I'm looking over Didi and have achieved good things. Until now found 4 FKs:
Brazil 6-0 Paraguay - Oswaldo Cruz Cup 1962
    Brazil 2-1 Chile - B. O'Higgins Cup 1961
Brazil 1-0 Peru - World Cup Qualifier 1957
    Brazil 2x1 Portugal - Friendly 1957

Still not checked several matches and 5 goals.

Already have listed Rivellino, Pele, Didi (now) and I'm also looking for other players. This week, I will open the thread with information on goals, assists, FK, PK, starting 11 with major players in history of Brazil NT.

PS: Didi was a fantastic player.

Even without directly participating in some goals in several matches, he was voted the best game in several analyzes. When not marked FKs, his goals were made from outside the penalty area, beautiful kicks.

He must be a genius. Too bad there are few videos of his time.

Didi was 'under rated' by many (especially European fans) for they did not know how he played in Brazil, but his few years in Real madrid. Many considered as his 'failure' but it was unfair for him as the team were built around Di Stefano and he was forced to play as a CM/DM behind Di Stefano and it was not his forte' position/role

Didi was a very first classic type #10 (that many greats resembled his style later in Rivelino, Valderama, Enzo, Laudrup, Zidane , Rui Costa, Riquelme, Veron ... and lately Xavi (08-12 not before) ... meaning the TEAM had to be dependent on his ball distribution!

Correct. In the analyzes, always highlighted its ability to give perfect passes, the class with the ball and ability to dominate the ''center circle''. He was the natural leader of the team.

In 1957, he make fantastic matches together with Zizinho (at this end of career), as 4x2 Chile, 7x1 Ecuador and 9x0 Colombia in Copa America. Didi also shone against Uruguay (3-2 defeat). That year, also Didi scored the classification goal from Brazil to the World Cup (1x0 Peru)

Thanks. Months ago, I watch the two finals... still missing the match against France in 1958. But it's very little. There are other complete games, but obviously not in the same amount that the players of another generation. It's a shame, but can enjoy the Didi with what have.

In the first post, I reported that Zico scored 101 FK goals in his career. I relied on information from a friend and many articles/bios saying ''Zico scored +100 FKs, 17 in Udine, 69 in Fla''.

So I decided to search on this site (Zico official) http://www.ziconarede.com.br/znrpub/variedade/cadgols/fichatec.php, I looked his professional career and I found 80FK goals.

Why Zico's goals are overvalued by other sources?
    - Maybe contains amateurs goals, goals in festive games.
    - Maybe Zico doesn't have information about all goals.

Anyway, it's the best I've done. I think Zico has really 80FK goals, or a little more. Apologizes for the wrong information.

Lucas, thanks for great effort ...

At the end, can you post a summary of TOP10 (not by your ratings, but just by number )
    i.e.
    Zico 81
    Juninho Per. 76
    ...
    Beckahm 56
    ...

According to puckvanheel gazzetta della sport credits maradona with 14 serie a free kick goals. In the other thread vegan10 posted all maradona serie a free kicks, 16 of them. I can see the reason for the difference, two of the 16 seemed to be deflected on their way in, suggesting gazzetta della sport took them away from maradona (like the modern "dubious goals panel")

Is there official word on who these goals belong to? Or an official criteria to decide? One of them ( against ac milan 84 85) was on target before deflecting off a defender, my understanding is a shot on target deflected in off a defender belongs to the stiker. The other against torino 85 86 seemed to take a deflection off possibly his own teammate but it's difficult to clarify, if it did then as I understand the goal would today be awarded to his teammate. But what were the rules on this (if there were any) back in the 80s?

One of those goals was credited to him (Torino game) while the other one was given as an own goal. That was common in Italian football at that time, any deflection was not awarded to the shooter, but for some reason the Torino one was. In Argentinian and Spanish football this was not the case and deflections were indeed credited to the shooter.

Another reason might be that Gazzetta only counted direct free kicks; so the famous one vs Juventus (in 1985 IIRC) does not count, where Maradona scores a free kick inside the penalty area. That was an indirect free kick, a team-mate laid it off for him.
Probably also the direct goal from a corner-kick (the Olympic goal) isn't counted.

    very well remark, PUCK

I always felt AMAZED when I review that goal. If one (ever) play football, he would know scoring a FK at 35+ m is difficult, then score a FK with only 10-12m away from GK/DF is like MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

The new information in this thread contradicts the perception that zico was far better than anyone else. Maradona and juninho both seem to be close to him. With the information here it's interesting to compare the numbers in specific competitions

In league competition, including j league, zico apparently, has 44 goals

Maradona by my calculation, post argentinos juniors has in league competitions 24 goals, and has estimated about 20 free kicks at argentinos juniors. As there were no cup competitions, presumably a large % of that estimated 20 were in league competition, which infers a similar number overall to zicos 44.

I'm not sure these stats offer a conclusive answer over who is better at free kicks

the NUMBER (of FK) is NOT the ultimate evidence to prove who is better but surely an important proof for one's greatness. For me there are few categories in or der of importance to rate a good FW taker:
1- Number of FK success per attempts (if possible, otherwise FK per game is OK) - 35%
2- Variety in position and distance that those FK were made (successful) - 25%
3- Techniques of kicking the FK (side bending, placing precision, "fallen leaf" or top spin , power of shooting ...) - 25%
4- Last and not least FK in big games or against TOP teams - 15%
