The thing is the first three didn´t do anything for their national teams, though it wasn´t entirely Yorke´s fault since Trinidad weren´t much in the late 80s.
The things is that Suazo still plays, and he might shine the the national team during the world cup...But as of now you are right.
It´s possible, but he did very poor in WC qualifying, against much weaker teams than what he´ll face in SA. He seems to care more for his club(s) than country.
Well we´ll need an Alajuelense player up in here Alejandro Morera Soto from Costa Rica was Barca´s best player a long time ago, and José Cardona from Honduras won the Spanish league with Atletico Madrid in the past too, but they were in the same boat (didn´t do anything with their national teams.) Your list is about right.
What about Alex Bunbury. He is the all-time leading First Division goalscorer for Portuguese team Maritimo. For Canada he had 64 caps and 16 goals. 11 of which were in World Cup Qualifying.
He definitely deserves an honorable mention, but I feel the players I listed are the best 5 because they proved themselves at the highest club level.
Alejandro Morera is sure a Top-5. Hugo Sanchez too. And "Pirata" De la Fuente. Also Enrique Borja or Cuautemoc Blanco
I'm shocked many haven't mentioned Panamanian Julio Dely Valdes who was great in Spain, Italy, and France. I remember David Trezeguet once said he idolized Dely Valdes when he was a kid. How about Magico Gonzalez? Can he be considered a striker? If he is then he should definitely be Top 5. But it's pretty tough to pick since there has been many great strikers throughout the history of CONCACAF.
I'm too young to have seen Magico play. The growth of soccer on US tv happened the era right after Dely Valdes so I can't really comment on him either.
1. Hugo Sanchez 2. Dwight Yorke 3. Julio Dely Valdes 4. David Suazo 5. Enrique Borja 6. Paulo Wanchope 7. Salvador Reyes
I think of DeRosario like I think of Donovan. Not really strikers. Brian McBride is the American to consider.........as far as impact for both the national team and club football. I don't think he's top 5, though. I'd still pick Wanchope over him, but it's close. We must consider that the two active strikers in world football who've scored the most career international goals are both from CONCACAF...........Stern John and Carlos Pavon. John scored an incredible 69 goals for T&T. That makes him 5th in world football history. Pavon just passed Romario for career goals. He's scored 56 goals in 93 games for Honduras. That's a pretty remarkable striker rate, isn't it? Goals per match of 0.6. That's a similar strike rate to players like Ronaldo. Everybody should have #1 the same on their list. It's obviously Hugo Sanchez. By a wide margin. 164 goals in 207 games for Real Madrid. YIKES!
Not sure Pavon is top 5 or not but he has to be in the convo, the guy has played in various clubs and not to mention the memorable performances he has had w/ the national team. Remember in 2001 where he scored 3 goals against Mexico, scored the goal for Honduras to beat El Salvador. He also was top 2 in the CONCACAF goal scoring at age 36!!!! so look that up. He was a beast in mexico and he is regarded as the best Central American to ever play in Mexico and was a big part of Morelias 1st championship if im not mistaken??? Italy,Mexico,Honduras, USA,Spain, Colombia,Guatemala
I'm actually wrong about that stat. Sorry. John is #1.........Ronaldo (the Brazilian one) is #2, and Pavon is #3. By the way.......Borgetti, Donovan, and Rolando Fonseca are all top 15. A day will come real soon when Landon Donovan is the world's leading active goalscorer. I know that sounds weird, but he's at #13 right now. And everybody above him on the list (Pavon, Borgetti, Pavon, John, Schevchenko, Ronaldo, Tomasson, Henry, etc.) is much closer to retirement than Donovan.
Macho Figueroa deserves a mention. He scored consistently in La Liga for the two seasons he played, took Murcia from then 2nda division to Primera and is a Murcia legend.
scratch that...forgot some players Top 11 1. Hugol 2. Dwight Yorke 3. Julio Dely Valdes 4. David Suazo 5. Enrique Borja 6. Luis Pirata Fuente 7. Carlos Hermosillo 8. Jared Borgetti 9.Paulo Wanchope 10. Brian Mcbride 11. Salvador Reyes
He was a Striker for the beginning and throughout his career. He played WC 98 as a striker and scored one of the greatest goals against Belgium. As he got older he turned into a number 10
how is David Suazo top five? the guy cant even score for his NT.......Suazo is only good in Serie A and that was like two years ago....... he sucks in Concacaf hasnt even played a Gold Cup....
