    Assuming John McCain loses:

    (in no particular order)

    1) Mitt Romney. Probably the early front runner, with talk about him wanting to run already out there. A McCain loss would make the things he said look better. Doesn't the establishment candidate always get nominated? I guess it would be his turn, but he has so many flaws.

    2) Mike Huckabee. He keeps running now with little chance of winning, but continuing to win primaries may make him stronger for the future.

    3) Tim Pawlenty, governor of Minnesota. Already been plenty of talk about being VP this cycle, as he's a big McCain supporter. Term runs out in 2010 where he'd likely face former Senator Mark Dayton in a tough race, so it would work out perfectly for him to run for President instead. Read a great blog article a while back speculating on him running but I can't find it now.

That's all I have for now. Who else belongs on the list?

So true! LOL. But I don't think he has the experience to run a campaign. Romney, Keyes and Huckabee have all run campaigns so I don't doubt their ability to do so......Thompson not so much.

Condi would get killed. Her past public speaking leads me to think she'd get butchered in debates.

Mitt Romney-only cause he can't win statewide in Massachusetts anymore so therefore has nothing else to run for, and he has a lot of money

Bobby Jindal-assuming he has a good governorship in Louisiana, I can see the Republicans pushing him to say, "Hey, we have elected minorities too!"

Jeb Bush-pounds head in wall, I'm sick of the Two Families

Mitch McConnell-if we assume McCain loses, that means the country will be heading slightly left, and I can see Republicans sympathetic to an openly cold-blooded conservative firebrand

Tim Pawlenty-blue-state governor, lots of people like him

Mark Sanford-South Carolina governor, lots of people like him

Haley Barbour-unlike neighbor Louisiana, he has acquitted himself well in Katrina cleanup for Mississippi

Considering the rumors that swirl about this guy, I don't think he would have a prayer in hell.

Someone will rise to the top - it is required. But for now, the cupboard seems awfully bare.

Why would Romney be any better a candidate than he was this year? Same with Huck? Both candidates got reamed by the candidate right-wingers detest almost as much as Hillary.

I would check in with the top governors. Except Jeb. Could America really be so stupid as to niominate a third Bush? Okay, he could run on an anti-Bush platform ("Hi, I'm the Anti-Bush Bush").

And the idea of Reeps nominating an Indian is utterly laughable. Ah-nold needs a constitutional amendment. That four-termer of New York is so forgettable, I can't remember his name.

We could look to congress. Ugh. There's not a single serious person among them. McConnell? Absurd. Diz Dole? A cretinous congressperson from Texas?

Okay, Dubya's cabinet... LOL. I love the idea of a Condi run; she is arguably the poorest performer from a decidedly un-lovable bunch of losers. What accomplishment can Condi possibly run on? We didn't get nuked? Frankly, Brownie has a better resume.

Its slim pickens right now for the reeps. But fear not; the dems will surely screw the pooch and some back-bench firebomber will surely warm the cockles of Coulter and Limbaugh.

    Can't see why.

He seems like a charismatic guy. If he can somehow manage to survive being governor of Louisiana without being tainted by corruption, that in itself makes him worthy of getting a shot.

Possibly the dumbest person to hold office in the last 50 years.

(Also, note, it wasn't elected office.)

And certainly one of them couldn't possibly get elected to office in a deep south state.

That is ridiculous. Read her resume and tell me she is dumb.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/ricebio.html

    Some highlights:
Here is what wiki has to say about her:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condoleezza_Rice

Yeah, she has managed all those honors and achievements and many others. In addition, she can speak several languages, and she is an accomplished musician.

But, she is African-American and a Republican so she must be dumb.

Actually, she is one of the smartest people ever to serve the country.

About a year or so ago, Bush said he sent Condi to go get a deal on something (I believe it was a meeting with Putin). It didn't go too well.

Afterward, a commentator somewhere mentioned, "When Bush sends Condi to go get a deal, does she ever get the deal?" :D

That's nice, but being smart has little to deal with her job. (don't get me wrong, it certainly helps, but when you are in a position as high as hers, you can't get by on smarts alone)

Her job is to fly around and impersonate Kissinger. Go out, negotiate with countries, friend and foe alike, and get a deal for what the United States needs or requires. I think it spoke volumes when Secretary of Defense Gates was the one pushing on NATO countries to up their troops' commitment in Afghanistan and not Rice, cause really it should be her job to bring that up as Secretary of State. Makes it look like she got demoted in the Bush Administration.

I don't think Condi is dumb at all, but I do think she's been an absolute disaster as a BushCo apparachnik.

How so? Middle east talks are moving. The 6 party talks were for all intents and purposes a success. What more do you want?

And what did Albright do that was so superior?
