Well, the end of the Serie A campaign is fast-approaching and it appears many of the clubs, including key clubs such as Juve and Roma, may be looking for new managers. How would you rate the "active" Italian managers? By active, I mean managers who could realistically currently manage a club side. Naturally, someone like Mancini would be included. Who would you want managing your side? My top ten list would be: 1. Lippi 2. Capello 3. Ancelotti 4. Spalletti 5. Gasperini 6. Prandelli 7. Mancini 8. Allegri 9. Trappatoni 10. Conte It should be noted that a guy like Trap is a manager that has done it all and has credentials comparable or better than almost anyone. However, I rate him relatively low due to what I perceive to be his inadequacy in managing the modern game.
1. Spalletti 2. Lippi 3. Prandellli 4. Ancellotti 5. Capello 6. Gasperini 7. Trappatoni 8. Mancini 9. Conte 10. Allegri
I'm sorry, but how do you figure that Spalletti is better than guys like Lippi, Capello and Ancellotti when Spalletti hasn't won any major honors?
1 Ancelotti 2 Capello 3 Trapattoni 4 Lippi 5 Prandelli 6 Spalletti 7 Mancini 8 Gasperini 9 Zaccheroni 10 Guidolin Honorable mentions: Delio Rossi, Pasquale Marino, Ballardini Best newcomers: 1) Giampaolo 2) Conte 3) Allegri Best recently retired: 1) Scala 2) Mazzone 3) Sacchi
My #1 pick is Spalletti bc of what he has done with a mediocre Roma side. Lippi is by far the best coach, but he's not really an active coach...NT coaches shouldn't really be mentioned here with Serie A coaches. But, i'm thinking more long term based. Capello, Ancelotti have both won more titles...but that's on a Milan, Juve...Coaches like Spalletti / Prandelli are up and coming fantastic coaches. Like NT worthy in the future. It's much easier to win on Milan or Juve, then on Roma or Fiorentina that's why i picked them.
That's once in 15 years ...and Roma don't really like to associate themselves with Capello after he left us.
'current form' and it is prandelli or capello. if there was a match played where my life was on the line i would pick capello. you are very lucky to have so many good coaches though. no englishman would into italies top 10 coaches (except maybe hodgeson)
We'll see how good Lippi is at the WC this year. I think 2006 with the Calciopoli scandal bringing together the Azzurri plus Brazil being ripped apart by internal politics and squabbling were as much reasons for them winning as anything else (that and the insistence of everyone to play a functional 4-5-1 which Italians always end up facing in nearly every other Serie A game!) Suffice it to say I am not a Lippi fan - he has won, but ask Roberto Baggio what kind of man and manager Lippi is - I'll think you'll be surprised at the answer you get! I have more respect for a Guidolin or Prandelli whom manage sides with definite holes in their lineups, yet still manage to be competitive. Ancelotti had a bit of silver spoon in his mouth, yet he did better at the European and world club level than Lippi. Veterans: 1) Guidolin - a master tactician, never has been given the field talent worthy of his own. 2) Prandelli - a gentleman and a scholar - loved by players and fans. 3) Spalletti - worked on a shoestring at Roma and still won. 4) Ancelotti - quiet but a superior handler of players. 5) Cappello - not my favorite person, but he has succeded everywhere he has been. 6) Novellino - Many think he is a hothead, but outside of Simoni (see below) is one of the very best at getting his teams promotion or avoiding relegation. But he couldn't work miracles at Torino and Reggina. 7) Trappatoni - a funny man but a smart manager. Newcomers: 1) Zenga - smart man, hopefully he will be given another shot at managing soon. Who knows - maybe he will be an Inter manager sometime? 2) Allegri - reminds me of Guidolin - a very sharp manager who will someday manage a major side in Italy if not in Europe. Retired: 1) Mazzone - a wily old fox 2) Simoni (took more teams to promotion than any other manager in the higher divisions - eight times.) Also a true gentleman in the Prandelli style.
no Ranieri on anyones list??? TOp 10 1. Lippi 2. Capello 3. Prandelli 4. Ancelotti 5. Mazzari 6. Ranieri 7. Allegri 8. Gasperini 9. Spalletti 10. Trappatoni
