Hmm. PlanetFootball's always a little dubious, but I'll assume this is legit.

If so, good move for Tony as WBA are a massive club.

Yes, but while sometimes brilliant they often fall a bit on the dodgy side. :D

DSF ticker confirms it as well:

Geenen: "The teams agreed on a loan deal until the end of the season with a buy option afterwards. It is up to Sanneh to sign this deal now".

It could just be business and it still will work out.

Buff, you're misrepresenting the article. Tony is negotiating. He's not flatout refusing to go to WBA.

    Tony Sanneh rejects WBA move

I hope you are joking. Massive clubs don't spend 8 out of every 10 years in the First Divison.

    From the article:

That might be pushing the point just a bit.

Yeah, I found that funny, along with

"...Sanneh started the season with Nurnberg and he has been exceptional at centre half"

I like Tony and hope to see him prosper (either in Germany or England), but by all reports we've seen I don't know that saying he's been "exceptional" the first half of the season is quite accurate.

Planetfootball dodgy? I was confused until I read the comment about West Brom being massive.

Did you also notice that Sanneh said he would not play against Canada because of treatment for his back injury?

West Brom is a massive step up from Nüremburg in my opinion.

If i were him i'd jump at the chance to play in the premiership. I think WBA have a good chance at staying up this season.

The fans of WBA would surely be more appreciative of his abilities given their history.

The big cat is coming off an injury & agreed to train w/ the nats in order to keep match fit.

i agree completely. i know tony is winding his career up and he wants to financially stable, but his style would suite the premiership so much more because of his size and speed. i believe he would play better and be treated better by the fans.

i hope west brom ups their price.

Kicker: West Bromwich Albion wants to loan the US-Boy
SANNEH GOES, SANNEH GOES NOT, SANNEH GOES…

If you’re having a budget of hole of about 3M as 1.FC Nürnberg, then you got to save money and search for new income sources as the Indoor tournament last weekend. FCN already filled 1M of the hole, the next part could follow: Anthony Sanneh shall dare the jump to the island to Premier League second but last ranked West Bromwich Albion. First on loan, then the English have a buy option at the end of the season.

The amount of the loan and transfer sum is kept silent, but one thing is sure: if it works, then FCN will save at least 1M considering that the top earner (900 K until 2004) would vanish from the salary list.

No question for GM Edgar Geenen, who enforced the deal, that this would be an important step to consolidation. The problem: the agreement of Sanneh, who currently stays in the USA, is missing. Edgar Geenen about it: “I did not travel to England during my vacation just for fun. Tony told me several times that he would like to play in the Premier League”.

Sanneh, who showed inconstant performances for the club, sees this differently. He doesn’t want to go and points on the good perspectives of FCN. Fresh statements, which are the complete opposite of what he told just one month ago. He did not feel respected and wasn’t happy, spoke openly about a transfer. A change in mind? Or is the relegation endangered club in England a dissatisfying solution for him? The club GM sees this differently: “Also there he has an ideal base to present himself for the English market”.

On January 12th Sanneh shall join the club roster to fly with them to the training camp in Gran Canaria. Coach Klaus Augenthaler naturally made his own thoughts about the latest happenings and asks himself whether a transfer wouldn’t be the best solution for everyone. Sanneh has to answer this question.

    =================
Personal remark on the treatment of the fans: Nürnberg is known for good fans, you can have it much worse. Nobody is whistling without a reason - if Sanneh plays for WBA as for FCN, then there'll be whistles as well.

Re: Re: Tony Sanneh rejects WBA offer

West Brom fans are a tough crowd. When Olsen was at Forest, his dad saw him play at Brom and he reported to me that the atmosphere at the game wasn't exactly a family affair. So I would think that getting nice treatment from the fans is by no means a given.

Just because the english use the word massive to describe various clubs, doesn't mean that every English club should be described as massive. There are 4 or 5 massive clubs in England, WBA isn't one of them.

Captian, If you think sitting 2 points off the bottom of the table half way through the season makes it likely a team is going to stay up, good for you, but it suggests to me you don't know much about the world of football.

Just a quote from Megson confirmed their interest.

olafgb: I think Tony does his best, it's just that he is not a great outside player. He played well in the World Cup, but the US team plays a simpler system. Maybe Nurnburg paid too much for him?

I don't doubt that he's giving his best, he's just unlucky in some situations and often unconcentrated. At a certain point it also happens that a player is seen more critical, and of course they expect more of him as a top earner than of some replacement, who earns half of his salary. A little bit odd though that he earns 900 K already (which is definitely very good for a player of his class and age, also considering the WC) and now his loan to England could fail as he even wants more money (that's what GM Geenen yesterday said on TV)
