Has anyone else seen any news about Tony Sanneh? Last week I saw some news that he was back in training but didn't expect to play until after the winter break.

Both player and club expect Tony to be back in January after the winter break.

Last week Tony said he was at about 70%, if that means anything.

Where can I get some of that there Freidelhol?

As a matter of fact, Friedel could probably use a refill...

    Sanneh

First class player in his college days...UWM...fleet of foot and a flyer!
Class indoors and in the ALeague
    Class, two championships, in MLS
    Class overseas in Germany
World Class in the 98 tune ups and
    TOP 11 in 2002!

I hope he is in top form and returns to prove all the doubters wrong!

You realize that most players eventually start to go downward... except Gianfranco Zola... but that's just because I have a mancrush on him.

As I understand it, he has surgery to repair/replace a disk in his lower back. He began running again in October and reportedly felt fine but they want to bring him back slowly.

There was brief discussion of a move to an English 1st DIV side but it appears the injury was too iffy for their tastes.

If we do play that match in Holland and Tony is healthy, I wonder if he will be called in. It might be worth it to Bruce to call Tony into camp just to see what he looks like but not to have him on the game roster.

I'm pretty sure that Bruce is familiar with Tony's mug.

If Tony had buried that header against Germany, he would be on Mt. Rushmore.

Only if we had won in OT or in the PK shootout.

I believe he's part hobbit too, so his longer life span allows him to have a longer upward stint.

Are you saying Tony is not good enough to cut it now, so soon after WC 2002?

I will say it.I will forever admire Tony for WC 2002.But in fact, his play was problematic before the WC and he REALLY got it together. I am highly dubious if he has any chance for 2006. But first and foremost I am a USA fan, so if he proves me wong, you can count me as delighted!

You don't know how players will respond to an injury, espically if they are getting up there in. Tony could be in great form when he gets back or he could be a shadow of himself. Right now, I wouldn't count on Tony for qualifying at all, at least not until he gets a full season under him. However if he is fully healthy and feels up to it, Bruce should at least call him into the camp for the game in Holland to get an up close look at him.

Tony seemed to be playing better at CD than RB for Nurnberg before the injury. Anybody know how their backs are shaping up this season?

    And where has Olaf gone?

I'm here, don't worry. Can't help you in this matter. Short before the winter break they said that Tony would resume training after the break, but a bit later I read that it's still uncertain. Meanwhile FCN is back in training, but I couldn't find if Tony joined them - I fear he didn't, but it's just a guess.

Just so no one ran you off over the winter break. Let us know if you hear any more on Tony (or Mathis for that matter.)

    Very good article

    Sanneh on the comeback trail
    By Andrew Monfried
    http://ussoccerplayers.com/players/404104.html

    ......

"Sanneh underwent tests earlier this week that hopefully showed the pressure and inflammation in his back was gone. Only then will the doctors green light his return to the field.

“If this is the case, it is just gaining muscle strength and keeping pressure off of the sacrum ligament and I can start training with a reserve team this week,” he continued. “But they have it on the schedule as me being available to be with the team for our game on February 8.”

    .........
