I am listening to the Tony Kornheiser Show and he just ripped soccer, let's get a posse together and go kill him! He is enemy number one to the sport! If it weren't for him soccer would be HUGE in America!

(note the sarcasm making fun of those who go nuts in this manner whenever someone rips soccer in America)

I think Kornheiser means 'grain merchant' in German.

Which only makes sense, since the guy is always selling hay to the yokels. He's just another loser with a 'foreign' sounding name, dissing the good, old American sport of soccer. :)

So he doesn't care for soccer. What is you point? There are soccer fans that don't care for other sports, operas, movies, etc. Who cares.

He doesn't like soccer, but he thinks it is important. Otherwise, he would never mentioned it.

I think the thread was opened as a repository for sarcasm and personal ventilation, rather than serious discussion.

The key: Tony Kornheiser. Serious discussion is impossible.

Actually I started it to make fun of the people who get there panties in a bunch when some fool rips soccer, as if they think that changing one opinion will change how soccer is percieved in America. IT WAS A JOKE!

I think the problem is clear....

Tony Kornheiser is a member of the Illuminati... the secret organization that puts porn shots in Disney movies and makes sure ESPN has little or no soccer coverage. (in addition to robbing cave fish of their sight... and rigging every oscar night)

yeah, i actually live here in DC where Tony is, and I don't even listen to his show. I don't see what everyone sees in him, but, to each his own. If i had a dollar for everytime Tony K. or Jim Rome blasted soccer, i would be a rich man. hey, let's be serious here. you have to understand what is going on with many of the sportscasters. they don't want to cover the sport because they don't KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT the sport. and knowing it would require them to do more studying and learning. these guys don't want to do that, nor do they want others who know about the sport possibly taking a few jobs. we shouldn't take any of these guys too seriously. Hell, Tony K is the same guy who is constantly trying to convince listeners that Kobe B is better than Michael Jordan was ..................

The most simple solution is to boycott Jim Rome and Tony Cornholer (or whatever his name is).... I know both these shows are really going to piss me off; thus, I don't even start listening/watching.

I saw we hang Tony up by his gonads over a pit of ill-tempered sea bass. I'll bring the laserbeams.

Yeah and the quote you post doesn't even mention soccer. It just says the person has issues with Rome and Kornheiser. What is so objectionable about that? I have plenty of issues with those guys, many don't have anything to do with soccer, some do. Does that make me an idiot? Does it offend you?

Say what you will about posters who get their panties in a bunch from listening to soccer bashers, but it's those of you who go ballistic every time someone dares complain (on a soccer message board no less) about some aspect of how soccer can be treated in some parts of the media that I think are nuts. There is no better way to get flamed on bigsoccer than to complain about the mainstream US sports media in any way. Personally I find that silly. We don't all worship at the Church of the US Sports Media.

Well said Justin. Some people on here think its a badge of honor to not be annoyed by uninformed soccer talk. Strange.

    It has gone full circle...
You know, soccer has been ripped as routinely as NASCAR used to get ripped.

And these are supposed sports-analysis "experts" doing it, too... and yes, bigsoccer ostriches with your heads in the sand, it IS a serious issue when you like talking about college football, basketball, tennis, golf, triple crown, etc. on sports radio and find out that soccer ist verboten...

Although it was fun to read Frank "soccer is mumblety-peg" DeFord's glowing tribute to David Beckham a few months back... progress is progress.

Sorry I didn't enjoy the "joke" or appreciate the misguided sarcasm expressed at the beginning of this thread.

So, this guys says he doesn't bother listening, and you are ripping on him because you don't care?

I think he was using the word 'boycott' rather loosely here. If you read the post, he was talking about a personal decision, not trying to organize some campaign.

After carefully reviewing this thread I conclude that Chicago1871 has the correct idea. I have also reached the conclusion that we will need a lot of beer.

Put me down for a kegger.

I was listening to Tony Kornheiser's show today, as I do every day cuz I think it's hilarious.

Tony, and the folks that do the show with him were talking about the HR leaders in MLB and they were questioning if Sammy Sosa was only 34 years old, as listed. They were questioning this based on the lack of good documentation kept in the Dominican Republic.

Well, Tony brought into their debate a discussion he had with 'Bruce Arena, the coach of the US MEN's National Team - an important national soccer team, unlike the women's' or something to that affect.

Tony had asked Bruce if Bruce thought Freddy Adu was truly 14. Bruce told him about the 'wrist check' that is in affect a way to put a date on people and it had confirmed Freddy was 14.

There were some additional comments how age isn't important at the top level of their sport if they were able to perform. So if Sammy can still hit the long ball, who cares how old he really is...

The way Tony told the story, he seemed to show a lot of respect towards Bruce Arena.

Although I haven't followed Tony much with soccer, he might not understand or appreciate it, but I think he respects it - on the men's side.

A previous day he felt the women's game was just too slow.

    Just my 2 cents
