I know some people might feel this doesn't belong in this forum, but I don't care. http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory?id=1434631

The most horrible thing for a parent is to bury a child. I just feel so sad right now. My heart goes out to Tony Dungy and his family.

    This is the right place.

The story is heartbreaking. Condolences to the Dungy family.

All of the sudden, I love Segroves.

Of course this sad, but there is something wrong with a society that elevates the importance of the suffering of the famous over everyone else.

There is a Segroves exception to every rule. It doesn't apply to you.

Oy! We all know of Tony Dungy. He's been "in our living rooms" many times.

Sad yes, but also "current events". Hence threads like this are more than appropriate.

As for your love for Seagroves, perhaps you two should get a hotel room?

It's topical, as Coach Dungy is known for trying to balance football & family. Despite Tony's best efforts, it appears that James committed suicide. There may be more to the story, but all of us need a reminder occasionally that sports are not a matter of life & death, while family can be. Stan van Gundy took a few hits last week for walking away from the Miami Heat. IIRC, Danny Ainge did also. If you asked Tony Dungy to choose between an undefeated season & the Super Bowl or the life of his son, would any of us expect him not to chose James?

Emmmmmm.........asking him to choose between X and the life of his son?

What would X have to be before he took it over his son's life?

Well, it's obviously begging the answer. Profiles of football coaches often contain anecdotes that purport to demonstrate their devotion to the team, especially the "sleeps in his office" or "works 16 hours every day" comments. Jimmy Johnson was infamous for dumping his wife when he became an NFL head coach, because he 'no longer had time for her'. The famous quote "It's not a matter of life & death, it's more important than that" has been attributed to football as well as soccer coaches. War analogies are common. It takes something like a family tragedy to remind us that sports are apart of life, not life itself.

    Sad

But I don't get the fascination with this

You never met the man. You never met his son. People die every day and no one starts a thread for them

The cult of celebrity is out of control

    Merry Christmas

Well, let's review. The "Tookie" thread is holding at 264, the Coulter thread (she's not dead yet!) growing at 187, & we've always got the Middle East to keep our fingers busy. Then there's these threads: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=268987

Your posts, OTOH, are pure gold, tasteful & topical: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/search.php?searchid=1509656
    Merry Christmas!

Should I post a link to the article about a local murder that, fascinatingly, cribs from *3*, yes *3*, Law & Order episodes, and probably an SVU episode (since the wife accused of complicity in the murder of her just-returned-from-Iraq husband was previously in an affair with a lesbian, and when the husband stole her away, drove the lesbian to have a sex change operation)?

It happened at a park I take my kids to at least 25 times a year.

Seriously, if this isn't at least a movie of the week, there's no justice in the world.

I know about him, and especially about his father so I can relate to his death more than someone I've never heard about. The same would be true about not-so-famous people.

    What is your problem?

apparently...I'm not an expert on female-to-male sex change operations. I thought that would be more up your alley. :D

Hey, I actually recruited an ex-lesbian to play for our team. I need some props for that.
    1. The lesbian affair happened in Cali, the husband stole the girlfriend in Cali, they got married in Vegas (and how often do Vegas marriages turn tragic, gee, what a shock) and then the husband and wife moved to NC. The she/he is still in Cali. Just to clear up any confusion.

    2. What precipitated the hit was that the woman (26 y.o.) was shagging this 18 year old friend of her oldest step-son, and the kid actually moved in the house in April. While dad was in Kuwait with the reserves. So I think she was just dabbling in dykedom. Anyway, the dad came home on holiday leave, the kid moved back in with his mom the same day, and within a week, dad got whacked.

There were some glitches in the hit. The kid and a friend of his (the latter friend, btw, was dating her stepdaughter...see, I wasn't joking when I said if this isn't at least a movie of the week I just won't be able to make sense of the world anymore) were supposed to beat her up to make it seem like something other than what it was, but they shot her in the shoulder instead. And she sang like a canary...they got a confession out of her within a couple of hours.

Alfredo di Stefano has suffered a heart attack. If it's OK with you,I'll pray for his health.Hell,Ill do it even if it isn't.
And I will pray for the Dungys and the family of the woman in my girlfriend's town who killed herself the other day.
If anyone didn't think this was a germane thread to the board, they could've just ignored it.

The woman's defense is going to be that she heard the two guys talking about whacking her husband, but didn't participate in the plot.

Good luck squaring that with the two kids happening to meet up with the victim in a park at 2:45am a half hour's drive from home.

It turns out the Berkley family was into blogging. So if you can find it, you can see posts from the daughter about her cool boyfriend (who is an accomplice in the murder) and people berating the mom for taking up with a teenager while her husband was in the big sandbox.
