    So, Tommy Mooney is with the team now.

    They seem to remember him fondly in Watford:

    http://www.bsad.org/gone/mooney.html

    "...Except for one last moment of brilliant lunacy as Mooney, despite being barely able to walk, took it upon himself to return to the fray, demand the ball as Page lined up a free kick and attempt to ignore the pain to beat Desailly one last time. He was hauled off straight afterwards, an absolute bloody hero."

    Mooney is a legend at Watford. "There's only one Tommy Mooney" was the never ending chant from the Watford fans whenever he was on the pitch. He is a quality player, and I definately think he can perform in MLS. He scored the winner for us at Liverpool in our Premiership season (short-lived it was), and he scored 22 goals in division one in 2000/2001. He also was a key figure in Birmingham's promotion season last year. I hope he can show you what he is capable of, because all Watford fans know he is a special player.

    big up to Brooklyn
    what do you think a player of his calibur would ask as salary?
    do we have the cap space?
    do we need another forward if gio gets signed?

    hey, to me, he sounds like a great pickup if we get him. but will that push Clint to the midfeild and Mooney to start with Moreno?
    i'de like to hear some insight....

    If he's really owed £500K for the remaining 18 months of his contract, then it's hard to imagine how we could afford him at a comparable rate. I guess if he'd be willing to take a sizable paycut, it's possible.

    According to Chris Bergin & Co, Mooney is not in shape;

    "===============================

    Johnson brings over Mooney for MetroStars trial.

    MetroStars assistant manager Mo Johnson continued his evaluation of possible new signings for the club, bringing over Tommy Mooney for a trial.

    Mooney played in the MetroStars’ 2-0 defeat to Kansas City, after both teams clashed in pre-season while in Florida.

    The Birmingham City player who was recently on loan to Sheffield United, flew over to the US on the request of Johnson, soon after he returned to Birmingham from his loan at Bramall Lane.

    Blades boss Neil Warnock decided against keeping Mooney in South Yorkshire after deciding he had enough cover in the striking department.

    Mooney – appearing to lack fitness – faces a tough battle to earn a position in the Giants Stadium outfit’s squad, as a brace from Kansas City’s Igor Simutenkov sent the Wizards to victory at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.

    Johnson – who had a six-year career with Kansas City following his move to the US after an illustrious career in the UK – joined the MetroStars as assistant to new manager Bob Bradley.

    Utilised by the club for his technical knowledge of the game, Johnson has also proven to be a useful scout, bringing over a number of options from the UK as possible reinforcements for the MetroStars squad.

    As well as Mooney, Johnson brought over Fulham’s 23-year-old Scottish international midfielder Kieran McAnespie to the MetroStars, playing in recent pre-season friendlies.

    Johnson’s reputation proceeds him, according to MetroStars defender Steve Jolley.

    "Mo knows the League, the players. He's seen it all," Jolley said. "He's gone through the day-to-day and offers a different perspective.

    “I quiz him whenever I can, trying to get as much info as I can. Through him I've already learned tendencies of different strikers.”"

    Now here is Mooney controlling a high ball from Rooney, Mooney takes it down and lays it off for Rooney who takes off overlapping Mooney, Rooney backheels to Mooney who dummies the ball for a now trailing Rooney who deftly slots a ball for Mooney who works a one two with you guessed it Rooney and here we go.... :rolleyes:
