Tokyo 2020: Men's Olympic Football -- Tournament Discussion

Just after lunch for me, perfect for a quiet day at work

First game should be a win based on the squads but you never know. In 2016 we crashed out in the group stage against some meh teams.

 

2004-2008 , when our youth team was basically stronger than almost all senior teams.

 

Looking forward to the game later and also watching Germany v Brazil. it certainly has been a feast of football this summer

 

Egypt got many bookings but managed to held Spain for a goaless draw. Should be a benifit for us .

 

Yeah, that's good for us. I think most of the European nations don't take the olympics seriously, but Spain and Germany seem to be the exception to that.

 

Almada and Urzi not even on the bench, huh...

I like our front 4 (Valenzuela, Mac Allister, Barco, Gaich) but will be interesting to see how Colombatto (who I did like for the u20s) and Vera does in centre midfield.

 

I like how it's the Tokyo Olympics but this game is in Sapporo, Hokkaido, you almost can't get any further away than that, lol.

 

Damn what happened to Valenzuela? Hope he's alright.

So many misplaced passes from our guys, all over the pitch. The few times Australia venture forwar they look dangerous.

 

Offense looks good but the defense is a shambles. Australia very good at countering.

Ortega sent off. Yeah this is going great.

 

Ridiculous yellow card on a dead ball gives Ortega a red for accumulation.

 

One of the dumbest yellows I’ve seen. Horrible officiating.

 

45 mins played and we're 90% out of the tournament already lol. We've looked like headless chickens most of the time, not good. Very disappointed with Medina, Perez and Mac Allister.

 

Good thing the local tv here only shows the spain egypt & brazil germany matches lol.

 

Stupidity from the ref might have killed Argentina's chances but Batista deserves a lot of blame for this as well. No ALmada or Pedro. Senesi left off completely.

 

Australia commiting plenty of fouls for the ref to hand them a red and even things up if he felt like it.

 

Great, losing and a player sent off in the first game, ffs
