I've been trying to get all the positives in my mind since that fateful day against Man Utd, but today is the day that the depression and realisation finally sunk in. I woke up to check the news and found the First round draw of the Carling Cup had pitted us in a mammoth tie against Southend. I didnt even know the draw was imminent, it certainly isn't something I've had to pay attention to for a long time.
We're down!! God it's crap. Help me out here PRK, I'm sinking fast today!

It is crap. I feel for ya. There's a saying I like to use "you can't polish a turd". I'm not going to try to. I know it doesn't help now. But I think it'll help make it easier to have hope going forward at some point. It's going to be a long season full of scrappy play and longballs. And it could get worse. There's still plenty of summer to loose the likes of Niemi, Philips, Crouch, and others. This officially sucks! The worst part is that I've been trying to be a busy bee in life and just can't forget about it. I'm getting ready to move and will be going through a box of stuff and start thinking about it. I think the most frustrating thing as a fan is having no control. We can't say "well, we ********ed up and got what we deserve". Nope, we didn't do anything to deserve this. And you saw it from all the Saints fans. Even when the team was playing like crap and deserved to get booed, etc. There were plenty still cheering and such. We did our part and still got screwed.

Well, now that is out, I'll have a pint tonight for ya and toast to a good year with straight up promotion back to the prem!

You can't polish a turd. Classic. Made me belly laugh that. Cheers for brightening a dour day in this particular Southampton home. Not even me three kids could raise a smile outta me earlier, but I'm gonna keep that thought in my head all season, its so true.
The fans were more patient than I could ever have imagined and I just hope it stays the same throughout what is going to be a difficult adjustment period. Like you say, lots of long ball football(maybe should go back for Beattie :D ) and scrappy play. Still, we've just signed the king of scrapping so that might not be such a problem.

Still, hope the upcoming move goes OK and be sure to have that pint tonight, cos I'm defo gonna have one or two. I'll raise a glass to ya's

Good to hear ya got a laugh out of it all. It sucks but hey, at least you've got the kids around. And if you think things are bad with Saints in the fizzy pop, just teach the kids that phrase "ya can't polish a turd" and see how much worse the wife's wrath is. :D

I hope you had a couple good pints. Thanks for the luck on the move. I'll need it. I've still got lots of crap to get rid of. Worth keeping but not worth moving across half a continent.
