Happy birthday Crew 2 defender Keesean Ferdinand! https://www.columbuscrew.com/crew2/players/keesean-ferdinand-x2962/
Here's a video from 10/13/2018. Rob Stone dropped a massive #SavedTheCrew reference during college football coverage. https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/1127314473
I could say today is the anniversary of the first-ever video or I could post the video which was originally put onto video CD by Foos, then sent by myself to Tony Gallifo who did all the work to put it into a single YouTube video, as each half was on a separate CD. And doesn't @Bill Archer have a jersey or a medal from this game?
Don’t ask him about the jersey. He had an opportunity to buy one, didn’t, then went back and they were sold out. I wish I had purchased one myself. A cool grey third jersey.
And yet, the 2001 NCAA College Cup was colder...or so it seemed. Kickoffs were at 5pm and 7:30pm...or they were supposed to be until the first game ended up getting done after 9pm due to it going into something like 4OTs. The second game also went past 90 minutes and probably got done after 11:30. I believe it was those games that forced the NCAA to institute PKs to settle ties. @Hamburgler03 has a great story about being at the CCC at noon or something, having to set up the portapotties that had blown over. He and his buddy caught the FO guys going to lunch. The stadium was covered in snow and ice. The staff members didn't allow anyone past the first few rows, due to the seats being covered in ice. "Ya know, the game isn't for eight hours yet." "We know!"
In fact, I believe it was @hangthadj who ended up in eBay bidding war with the legendary @Brook, the godfather of V-Army. IIRC, the loser of the bid somehow ended up with the item via a trade. THAT'S the other story out of the game, other than how someone caught a game-worn jersey. (@kgilbert78, perhaps?)
No--the only thing I've caught at any soccer game is a giveaway tshirt. And it's been a while. Pucks and baseball, yes, but those are different sports. But I do have an autographed GOAL program from that game.
May 11, 1996: Columbus 3 - 2 New England. Two late Columbus goals sealed the win. Upon the final whistle, fans rushed the field. Crew coach Timo Liekowski said it was the fastest he ever saw Doctor Khumalo run. It was a hell of a first Crew game to attend.
