obviously most of you don't know spanish, some of you might and some of you might know a few words

the link above gives you a list of all the spanish words you will probably hear in a soccer game in spanish. It is a great list and once you know it well you should be able to watch any soccer game in spanish and know some of what is being said.

if you know some spanish already that list should be enough for you to watch any soccer game in spanish and understand it pretty well.

obviously the more soccer games in spanish you watch the better you will get and when you hear a word on the list you will instantly recognize it and know how it relates to the play on the field.

so print that list out and enjoy the confed cup!

I know Andres Cantor made it cool, but can we have some Mexican commentators that can keep the GOOOOL down to about 5 seconds or less? It's just really gotten quite annoying. Not to mention the fact that it has become the #1 impression of non-soccer fans of the sport...

you dont know how to appreciate passion for commentating! Cantor happens to have his own radio show and in the intro he does there is a "GOOOOL" clip so good it sounds as if it came out of his soul or something. The guy truly does live the game.

get ready for the one from the univision guy for the confed cup games

    GOLAZO! AZO AZO AZOOOO!!!

a "golazo" is different from a regular goal, it means a great goal (hopefully we hear this one for the USA) :)

I think the same thing every time I hear him do that. It's hard not to laugh. :)
He is a cool announcer however.

Pablo has been improving greatly... If only he would get rid of his "Guadalajara vocal inflection..."

On his side you find Ricardo Mayorga, the most intelligent, knowledgeable and romantic commentator in the business.

When you talk about play-by-play announcer, there is no better one than Emilio Alonso with TV Azteca.

Hopefully we will not be hearing the word "autogolazo", except only for New Zealand. After I initially recovered from the sheer numbing unbelief of Agoos' own goal v. Portugal, I just had to laugh out loud when Cantor (or whoever it was) loudly proclaimed, "Autogolaaaaazooooo (azo azo azo)!!!" Heh, I think even he was dead silent for about 2 seconds before that came out.

I tried to email this to the guy on the list but I think it's an old address. After years of watching Andres Cantor, I figured this one out:

MUY CERCA! = something like SO CLOSE! (literally, I think it's "very near")

You'll hear this after a shot goes screaming over the bar.

Casi cerca= very close or near miss
    Contra golpe= counter attack
peluca=what the little guy with high pitch voice on Univision needs
    Chorizo=what your lady likes
Va fungu or Carrajo=things to say when something goes wrong

Telefutura gets props for it's replays of games during last years Copa Mundial but Galavision es ****************** where is it available and why the hell does Univision not carry the games itself? Telenovelas can take a 1 1/2 week break the women will still turn them on after the Confed Cup.

Telenovelas= Cuerpas deliciosas 24 horas cada dia.

Just for the record Andres Cantor is from Uruguay, and we will probably be hearing Pablo Ramirez. This guy, I know for a fact, just annoys many of us in the Hispanic community with his fake golazo azo azo. Back in the days when we first started to have telecasts from the Mexican league we used to see the games along with the commentators from Mexico and they were a lot better.
I do like Ricardo Mayorga, Pablo's partner, mainly because he is much more calm than Pablo.

    Annoying? Never!
There is nothing like celebrating your team's goals.
We latinos pour our hearts into the sport and celebrate it with a passion. There is no other sport on the face of this earth which is played and followed with such passion as our beloved "futbol"!

I am Latino and follow the game with a passion. I don't mind when somebody celebrates with a genuine goooool!. What I don't like is when the commentator starts to fake an enthusiasm that we know is not genuine.
