Actually I don't know if there are any on this board, but came across an interesting article so... http://soccer1.ktdom.com/bbs/zboard...c=on&select_arrange=headnum&desc=asc&no=25483
Yeah we know about his past accomplishments. Doesn't change the fact that he's sucked in front of decent opposition for the previous 3 years.
Thanks for the post. Whew. That was a long article and a very good one. He must be a professional writer, don't you think? Only one thing I don't agree with - there is no point bringing him back to NT. We are better off trying out Park Chu Young and other young players instead.
There are quite a few good posters on that board - not all of them professional, so it's quite amazing About bringing Choi Yong-Soo back to the NT, to be frank I'm still rather divided on the issue. Yes, we should try out younger bloods, but then a wealth of experience brought by Choi is also something to be considered - like how Hwang SH did in the last WC. But Park Joo-Young however... I think he still needs more time to prove himself in the adult level, i.e. K-League. Sure he was incredible in that youth tournament, but he has yet to play in any of the league matches. Besides, there is another generation above him who are yet to be fully considered for the NT forward positions - Kim Dong-Hyun and Jung Jo-Guk, for example. Both of them were just as impressive when they played in the youth tournaments and are also playing quite well in the K-League. I think ppl are just getting carried away with Park by viewing him as a some kind of savior, as his stellar performances happen to coincide with the poor form of NT. Of course I also want to believe in the emergence of a star who will carry the next generation of NT, but NT is a place for proven, consolidated players rather than for hot prospects. Or that's how I think, anyway.
Ok, you may be right. Choi may be a leader others can follow even if he is not the best striker in the team. I don't think I skipped a generation. By "Park Ju Young and *other* young players," I meant players in U19 & U23 who has shown potential. BTW, some of the U23 players have been already tested in NT. One thing about Park, like Lee Dong Guk in the last 8-9 NT matches, he scored far more goals than any of his competitors in the last 8 - 9 U19 matches. No player in U23 team stood out like that. Anyway, I don't think it hurts to add Park to the NT squad just to give him some exposure and experience.
Yeah I agree, It wouldn't hurt to have Park in the squad - but that may only be possible at the expense of dropping Kim DH or Jung JG, as the current NT have to many FWs (albeit they aren't scoring that often) - Lee DG, Seol KH, Anh JH, Cha DR, Jo Jae-Jin (only FW promoted from U23 so far), Kim Eun-Joong, Lee Kwan-Woo et c et c.
The manager might consider dropping Jo Jae-jin for a few matches in favor of some other youngsters. I cannot imagine how a striker that disappears in an all attack match against the Maldives could really make an impact against anyone else.
In next several months, we will have a few friendlies without the help some foreign based players. This should give Bonferer a chance to try out players. In a totally different subject, what do you do down under? Are you a student, immigrant, etc.?
Choi Yong Soo... legendary goal-scorer in J-League and against opposition as challenging as well... mentally challenged defenders... That about sums up that dude.
uh, I guess the best answer to that question would be that I'm a generation 1.5 'gyopo' who's currently still a student? (but almost reached the end of my continuous 21-years long "schooling" )
Well, you left out the little bit where he had been one of the top scorers and best players of the K-League before he went over to Japan.
