I understand 100%...and though I do want Liga to win, I won't be jumping up and down with joy as if their winning it is any kind of glory to me. In the end, it's not my team. I am just damn glad it's not Emelec. Don't interpret this as my love not being the same for Barcelona...it is and always will be.

Borussia Dortmund is my 1st team and my passion (followed very closely by Barcelona)...but if Bayern make it to a CL final or Bremen, or any other German team I will more than likely root for them over non German clubs. A few German teams have won the Champion's League before Dortmund but it did not stop us from lifting it in 1997. That said, I will never want Schalke to advance an win anything in my lifetime.

    Winning it "first" means jack!!

Who cares who the first winner is? Urugauy won the WC first, where the hell are they now? The USSR won the first Eurocup...and they don't even exist anymore as a country for crying out loud.

Looking at NT, everyone says, well, I'm South American so I will root for Argentina or Brazil once Ecuador, Peru or Colombia - whatever, are knocked out. WHY? I understand maybe at club level due in part to patriotic pride but national teams??

Screw that!!! I will cheer for the team that plays best. I'm also German but you'll never hear me say, "I'll go for England if Germany are eliminated because I am European ." NEVER!!!

This time around, however, Liga have played great and as a fan of the sport, I can appreciate how they got the job done to make it to the final with a foot into the trophy already. They would be deserved victors if all goes well for them tomorrow and they don't choke.

    What helps a great deal...I also don't have to put up with those few idiot Liga fans gloating because;

    1. I don't live in Ecuador and chances of me finding a Liga fan that happens to be an asshole here in Maine is slim to none.

    2. I'm an adult, and most people I hang out with are my age and therefore are beyond talking crap.

So while it would have been great that Barcelona be the first team to win the cup, they had two opportunities to do so and didn't. Liga has earned it and I respect them as a team and a rival for that. To the good fans of Liga...great job, just hope this isn't to premature!

If you want some simple reasons why all Ecuadorians should support Liga, it's because this raises the profile of Ecuadorian soccer in general, gives our domestic league more respect, and increases the perceived value of our players.

You cannot compare our situation to Brasil or Argentina. They have many teams that have won international titles and they are well-established as top footballing countries. A River fan does not cheer Boca winning because River is already a highly respected and admired team. In fact, any Argentina team that qualifies to the Copa Libertadores is automatically considered a favorite.

As a Barcelona fan, think about it this way - Liga winning gives Barcelona, or any other Ecuadorian team, instant credibility on the international stage. To the extent this has not already happened, people will see that Ecuador produces top-quality teams, top-quality players, and just as important, is not afraid to go against the top Brazilian and Argentine sides.

Obviously it is not the same as if Barcelona were at this stage, but in the sense that we are a country that is taking small steps to becoming a legitimate contender in world soccer, you have to support a team that is on the verge of taking a huge step for the country.

Well you guys have choices. You want to be stubborn and not see a bigger picture go right ahead. You want to follow the path to regionalism and think its cool to do so, you will only hurt our culture as a whole.

I'll be the first to jump up and down if any Ecua league made it to the top. I see with Ecuadorian Goggles first.

Why its difficult for others to do so is beyond me. I mean is that not logical? In the end, what is the big deal in giving our Ecuas love? Does it hurt you to do so? What could you possibly gain by hating? What is the big deal? Why the need to make it a point how much you won't support LDU or how you won't "Be jumping for joy"?

Hey there is a reason why I love El Nacional. The reason is because there are all Ecuadorians.

On the other hand, think how we look to outsiders when we present ourselves in a mature fashion. We are a grand and beautiful culture. Think of how much could be achieved if we all put our trivial BS aside and focused on representing Ecuador to its fullest glory. Let the ignorant be ignorant. Should they act upon their immature passions in hostility, let them dig their own graves. You and I will find no reason to unite. You and I should think Ecuadorian first.

We are at a very sensitive point in our existence as Ecuas. We have power to set the next course. Wow, so it took a soccer game to do so. Yeah, I'll buy it.
Remember when we made t to the first word cup? I never had that experience where a random drive will honk his horn at me and yell "Ecuador!"
    I woke up.
I felt proud of my people and my culture. Not that I was never proud before but this was something different.

This feeling is about to return to me and I won't let anyone take that away. I ask you to join me in this time thats all. Put your pride aside and join the bigger pride.

I said I am supporting Liga but would have a very difficult time supporting Emelec in anything...that is quite the opposite of "regionalismo"!! ;)

It also does not turn me into a "Liga supporter" overnight. Sorry, but I do not use that term loosely.

It's called "club loyalty"! LDU is not Ecuador...it is an Ecuadorian-based club composed internationaly and I will support them tonight because I think they deserve it and overall, it is a step forward for ecuadorian football...let's leave it at that!

Hypothetical question: what if this copa libertadores final was a matchup between Emelec and America? Would you rather have an Ecuadorian team winnng the copa libertadores for the first time, or would you rather have Ecuador be responsible for allowing the cup to leave our continent?

Same here... I will support them because of their merits and they have played a good campaign, but I will not rejoice if they win or go partying.. non of that! I owe my loyalty to Barcelona. first and always, then the seleccion of course... they are actually both on the same plain to me.

I could careless if it leaves the continent! What good does it do to me if a club from Peru or Argentina or Brazil win the Cup instead of a Mexican side?

To answer your question - Emelec is a team in which I will always pick their opponent as the one to root for! Call it healthy club rivalry and in the end that is what club football and rivalries are all about.

Same goes for Schalke, Real Madrid, Manchester United, the English NT, The Dutch NT, the Brazilian NT and of course, Argentina. These are teams that I don't care how great they play...I'll root for the other guys!

I agree but what I am saying is that there are others who take it a step to far. I feel we, you and I , could prevent that. I'm supporting Ecuador and that is that.

I friggin started crying. All I saw were Brazilians cry but what about us Ecuas?

    Friggin cameramen were so biased.

I'm so happy for all of us.

MUCH LOVE TO ALL OF YOU

to me its the other way around.. porque la gente de tu seleccion tienen esa misma sangre ecuatoriana.. la gente de tu club pueden ser nacidos en otras cuidades hasta otro paises.. la emocion y orgullo de ponerse la camiseta del barcelona no va ser la misma para mondaini que para tu.. encambio en la seleccion poe lo usual si.. y no creo que se puede comparar una clasificacion con una copa.. es como decirte si te quieres casar con la persona que amas o irte a un prostibulo.. tu esposa sera para todo la vida.. mientras lo otro no.. solo por el momento.. no tengo mucho tiempo.. sino lo explicaria mejor.

Well, LDUQ won it all and might win the Recopa. They have been the best team in Ecuador for about 10 years. I like how they play. I am not of fan of that team but I am a fan of good soccer and Liga plays well. My team could not beat them on two occassions that they met this year so far but I have to admit one thing that they have good players and play solid. I remember when they had one or two chances to score against Manchester United. Unfortunately, they were not able to score but this is the only team of Ecuador that has put Ecuador on the soccer map of the world.

I was very happy and somewhat proud to have seen Liga win a Libertadores even though I'm not a fan. It just feels so good to see our players succeed in some of the best leagues, to me it doesn't matter if they started their careers in el Nacional or whatever. To be honest, seeing the NT play is a lot different that seeing Barcelona every other week.
