I don't have a problem with the mascots being there. My point has been, like Andy's, that the game appears to be getting 3rd billing compared to the two cartoon characters.
I'm Mr. "Let's Keep It to Soccer", but that same information had been going out over and over again...the new piece of the puzzle was Dora and Scooby, so it got top billing in one email where it was the new piece of info.
The cartoon character image on the website was also very prominent, no? This promotion does more harm than good and it doesn't matter what explanation or gift wrapping is put around it.
No more prominent than the Starting 11 Girls tryout, or the schedule announcement, or the Onalfo Q&A, or the open tryouts announcement, etc. We always put the latest press releases or announcement as the front page of the rotating media wall on the website. It's a common practice.
His point is though that the cartoon characters don't have anything to do with the team. All the things you mentioned do have something to do with the team.
The cartoon characters are an aspect of gameday the same way the Starting 11 girls are. Just an aspect. Not the focal point. Not a distraction. Certainly not something for anybody to get up in arms about. Just something fun for the kids.
If it brings a handful of families back because the kids had a good time I think it is well worth it. I dont understand where the harm is. It is adding to the game day experience for a certain demographic. I dont think anyone is going to be offended or outraged to see Dora walking around.
http://hillcrestroad.blogspot.com/2008/02/lawrence-event.html The Lawrence event that Robb spoke of. Are we going to get a better turn out from the Cauldron then we did last year at Voo Doo? (Yes I know the Cauldron meet and greet was that night)
has there been a game where it's billed as : Wizards to host Starting XI girls and DC United? actually that might not be a bad idea...
No, but there was a totally separate press release announcing the D.C. game as the home opener. With it's own headline. There was actually a separate press release for the S11 tryouts too. The cartoon characters weren't even given their own press release, just a mention in the Weekly Update. And yes, they were the top story in the Weekly Update, but as Sam pointed out earlier: the other stories in that update had already been out for weeks. This was the new information. It goes first.
jebus can we all get over this? it is done they are going to have "cartoon" characters there for the kiddies, if dora wasn't so stupid and we were younger still watching scooby-doo we would have ran up to him for a snack when we were younger...hell ben and spoon are probably going to try and get high with him anyway so lets all move on please
just don't get high instead on accident, because it might end up being the only thing you can focus on.
