This message is to ALL Kansas City supporters, whether it be the Wizards, USMNT, or the KC Legends. I’ve just recently been informed of some ridiculous behavior from people wearing “American Outlaws” T-shirts. I want to make one thing perfectly clear: THE AMERICAN OUTLAWS DOES NOT SUPPORT NOR ASSOCIATE WITH BEHAVIOR THAT IS VIOLENT, INAPPROPRIATE, OR ANYTHING ALONG THOSE LINES. It is absolutely ludicrous to think that we are connected with behaviors that are aggressive, uncanny, or premeditated. We are simply a group that was formed from passion, love, and friendship among supporters for the beautiful game. We pride ourselves on the fact that we are open to everybody, and we just want to have a open-armed organization that is willing to put forth the effort to promote the love. If anybody knows who was involved with any stupid behavior, please tell me NOW. IF YOU ARE INVOLVED, I WILL GLADLY DRIVE TO YOUR HOUSE, REFUND YOUR MONEY, AND WITHDRAW YOUR ASSOCIATION WITH AO. No hard feelings. I have no desire to form a group that is associated with this nonsense. This is absolutely appalling to me to put forth the effort to something that turns ugly. Chris American Outlaws - Kansas City
The inevitable outcome of trying to be an insider (corporate support from Nike, cooperation with USSF) and appeal to the hoolie-wannabees. If you play with matches, you're gonna get burned eventually.
Or even "where did they do it?". Seriously. Someone, somewhere on the planet, at some time not specified, wearing a red t-shirt, did something offensive to Nike and/or U.S. Soccer - if not the police. Did I get that right?
That sucks. I figure that out of all the supporter groups, the AOs would probably have the most difficult time with this type of problem. While the group has a great concept and great members, the very word "outlaw" means "a lawless person who refuses to be governed by the established rules or practices of any group." So, some people who join may get the wrong idea all together. And while looking cool, the whole "bandana covering the face" just screams "we cause mischief" to a lot of people.
Hooligan wanna-bes? I'm not sure about that. What people don't realize is, when you wear that AO shirt, you are representing it and me. I can't control how people act, especially when I'm not around. But, it's frustrating to get a bad name due to some outside people. Anyone who knows me or my brother can tell you that we are laid back, easy-going fellas. And AO is just the same. We are passionate and loud, but not over-the-top. We are always welcome to new members, but want people to share the same message we do. That is, tailgating, viewing parties, pre-game festivities, merch, and uniformity. Don't hate!
Ahhh.... I thought as much, but didn't want to specifically throw people under the bus. For what it's worth, I attribute the actions of the idiots to the idiots themselves rather than the organization whose clothes they are wearing - regardless of how vomit-covered those clothes are...
Are you saying something bad about AO? If not, skip below. If so, read on... These guys are doing something good man. Something Sam's Army wasn't able to do except for a few select cities on the east coast and a few small patches in the midwest. Maybe I'm being a bit defensive or reading too much into your comments, but you sure seem to have an issue with these guys that I'm not sure is justified. Second of all, you're implying that they are sell outs? Wow! Let's see, I show up in Chicago last fall to watch US vs. TnT and out of the blue, at least to me, a huge Nike truck pulls up. This truck has video screens all over it showing USMNT stuff, giving away t-shirts and playing music. Then AO shows up, sets up shop next to them, gives away stuff as well, and everyone has a great time. I'm not seeing the bad part here, maybe I'm missing something. Chris, I'm not sure your approach is the best. You may have out-ed yourself at this point, but it may have worked better to approach people at the first game wearing AO shirts and talk with them. You are experiencing something that a lot of us "old timers" have already been through. The 1-4 idiots who do something usually ruin something for someone who did the work to make what they did even possible. Trust me, I've been the idiot and the person ruining the fun (sometimes unfortunately even at the same time...) And to the people causing the issues: STOP! Stop being a young 20s idiot. I can say that, because I'm a later 20s idiot who used to be much, much dumber. Throwing tennis balls always stands out to me. At the USOC game a guy throws a tennis ball and his buddies slide over toward me talking crap about how could someone get in trouble for that. Are some of these guys seriously that ignorant? To not know that you can't throw something on the playing surface of a sproting event without consequences??? But there have been many other issues, issues that existed when Spoon and I were your age, and there will always be issues. You don't have to say what or who was done Chris, but I do know of a couple of situations I saw last season that couldn't help. Part of having an open group is having to deal with the people who do these things. What the Wizards, USSF, and everyone else have to realize is that this happens everywhere, at all sporting events, to some degree. If they can keep 99% of the group in control, and they can, they should be grateful. If a few people get arrested at a Chiefs game wearing Chiefs gear the team thinks nothing of it. They don't think that the "Chiefs fan group" is the root of the issue. And eventually the Wizards won't let the actions of some random idiots affect their opinion of an entire group that gives them an atmosphere they couldn't buy.
Not at all. I'm just pointing out the apparent naivete. We've been through this with Yank Army and Project Mayhem. Is it ignorance or plausible deniability when stupidity happens? From the Yank Army hoolie-wannabes that wanted to "sort those catrachos out" for disrespecting the U.S. national anthem to the there is no Project Mayhem leader who got busted for selling blocks of tickets he got from U.S. soccer on eBay - one shouldn't be surprised. I'm all for the American Outlaws. What they're doing is long overdue. I've been railing against Mark Spacone for neither shitting, nor getting off the pot - so to speak with Sam's Army for years. Sam's Army, organizationally, peaked in 1997. Seriously. It pulled itself together in 2002, but really Spacone basically dropped the ball, but by enforcing his trademarks, has been more hinderance than help. I has a lot of hope for the US fan group (I forget the name) that Sachin Shah and some MetroStars fans helped put together 4-5 years ago, but that eventually ran out of steam. The Outlaws are definitely the best organized group I've seen, but they apparently haven't learned some of the harder lessons of the earlier groups. I'm definitely rooting for them to succeed.
Lol im that idiot who threw the tennis ball,,,we were drunk and having a good time, and it was stupid,,didnt need to get called it, it wasn't me trying to be a hooligan, I just found a ball, and launched it, and paid the price court wise and lawyer wise...I'm not a stupid fan, im a great supporter of the Wizards, and the American Outlaws, stupid shit happens..Im not the person Chris was talking about, but sorry to all the Wizards fans annoyed when I threw the ball..it hasn't happened since..sorry!!
Also...what is Chris talking about? Can someone tell me whats going on, that way if it was one of my friends or someone I know I could talk to them about it, let them know people aren't happy and it needs to stop
I have no problem with AO leadership coming on here and trying to find out what is going on when AO people screw up ... but, it's been over 3 months since we had a home game. I'd say this post should have been done at least 3 months ago. Also, it would help for some specifics - at least what you know ... like - what game was it? and the gist of what happened. AO seems like a great org to me. As are KCO.
Chris is just trying to diffuse any lingering perception based on the actions of a few that he just learned about, by people he doesn't know. If it reflected on the group as a whole, we would have talked about it last year. It's a dead issue as far as I'm concerned.
lol...thats me in the far left... Seriously though AO are a great group, they show unlimited support to the US national team and dont tolerate BS, and that is awesome of them,,we don't need a racsist group or anything like that, and that is what makes them awesome, they support our country without bringing down the race or ethnicity of others... Up The AO
For throwing an article onto the field of play that has the potential to endanger a player's career? I think that's entirely appropriate..
Very agreed. Imagine if some one had actually rolled an ankle on a tennis ball(and it's not like theyre the easiest things to see). I'm actually pretty amazed you had the balls to own up to it dude. 100% not cool.
