Thank you Bob for putting to bed all those ludicrous rumors about him holding out for Germany. Also screw you Nurnberg.
That was always my take: --Nurnberg just put incredible pressure on him," said Bradley about Chandler. "They told him, 'You know what? You owe us. The bottom line is we don't want you playing, and if you play it's going to affect you next season here.'--
That quote is HUGE....and explains a lot on why he was so hesitant to leave and play for the USMNT. I actaully feel for the poor guy. He's young, and probably would have done anything just to make sure his career isn't in jeopardy. I wonder if that whole thing and his 'fear of flying' was just a cover up on his end?
The "fear of flying" was an exaggeration by frustrated fans and perhaps some journalists. He said that he "didn't like flying" (or words to that affect), but never said it was a phobia. I can't find the specific interview, but here's a quote from an Ives interview with him: With the U.S. national team, you fly all the time, I wanted to make sure that would be OK for me.
Yea--true. That can be taken that he doesn't like staying on a plane for longer periods of time, which later turned into a possible fear of flying. Eitherway, in retrospect it just sounds now like a convenience excuse to hide the fact that his CLUB doesn't like him traveling far, as that can be straining for a player. "I only had to think because I wanted to be clear in my head. With the U.S. national team, you fly all the time, I wanted to make sure that would be OK for me. When I made the decision, I didn't think about other things. I was 100 percent into the decision and I wanted this."
Or so Klinsmann wants you to think. He cooked up that quote with the help of Bradley to have us ALL fooled!
I'm country over club, 100% of the time. The thought process that goes into preventing your players from appearing for their international teams just doesn't jive with me at all.
Maybe, but I think there were exceptional circumstances at least that warrant him getting another look. I knew he was done when he did the first stupid turnover that led to a JAB(?) foul. I really believe part of Turkey crushing that side of the field was by JK design. He knew how to shut it down and he and JJ talked about it during some injury some Turkish guy had. I think the coaches may have not minded him getting pressured the entire game. I thought he did okay for the all assault he was trying to defend against. I would like to see him get another and see if he improves or not. I probably give him an hour to show his mettle and trot DMB to close the game out. I would lean towards TC being the starter in Ghana if he could show well against Nigeria.
After I read the article I admit to feeling a twinge of guilt for wanting him to sit out this WC. I am glad got over my disdain once JK called him up. I know some will still beat the commitment horse, but I think that it is past dead.
I think this is it http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/t...ck-bei-eintracht-frankfurt-36262686.bild.html
As if we needed more data to tell us that Timmy isn't the most adventurous guy...Bild informs us that his favorite dish is tuna salad with mayo.
From that article: Nach vier Jahren in Nürnberg ist der Verteidiger zurück bei Eintracht, wo er ab 2001 in allen Jugend-Mannschaften gespielt hat. Und zurück bei seiner Familie in Altenstadt. Bei Mutter, Bruder Sascha (32), Schwester Michèle (27), Nichte Aaliyah (4) und Neffe Damian (9 Monate). Zurück auf Anfang. Cap (Timmy's baby nephew) NOW.
