I agree, we have a heavy reliance on Cahill. He is our biggest goal threat and has articles written about him every day and to be fair, deserves every bit of it.

But this article gives me the impression that the editor is trying to say "Here's Tim, he's one of the best strikers in the world because the stats say so as he scored 4 goals against Fiji and a hatrick against Solomon Islands once upon a time" Kind of thing

Hmmm... I don't think that the writer is that stupid. The first two sentences are highly sensationalist, and obviously meant to suck in the casual reader so they look at the whole article. But if you take them out the rest of the article reads reasonably well (even if it's a bit brown-nosey).

It's pretty much a puff piece, but meh.

The question now has to be asked, does Cahill still fit into Holger's formation.

Starting up front, the Brett Holman-Josh Kennedy partnership had a much sharper edge to it against the Saudis than the limp effort produced against Thailand when Cahill played forward.

Kennedy has scored three goals in two games _ including a brace midweek _ and Holman, who played left side against Thailand, was much more effective up front. So it's hard to see Cahill forcing his way back in there.

Now comes the midfield minefield.

Holger likes to play two holding midfielders, so it's difficult to see a place for Timmy there under the current game plan.

He can't play out wide, so suddenly the options look very limited.

Cahill would best fit in a diamond midfield, where he could play behind the two strikers, yet the Socceroos seem reluctant to go down that path.

So the next question is can we afford to have our best player sitting on the bench and coming on for the final five minutes, like Timmy did in Dammam.

You also wonder what Everton boss David Moyes will be making of this situation. Cahill is his most precious commodity, especially with Mikel Arteta's move to Arsenal.

Premier League survival will probably depend on what Timmy does at Everton this season.

Moyes is renowned hard nut and he would be reluctant to let Cahill fly all the way to Australia to sit on Holger Osieck's bench.

Everton manager David Moyes says he is keen to keep the Qantas Socceroo as an integral part of the club for the immediate future, squashing rumours that Saudi club Al Nasr were set to the serial goal-poacher.

Cahill had been linked with a move to the super-rich Middle East club, after reports surfaced claiming they were ready to boost their global profile by signing the Australian international.
But Moyes moved quickly to refute those plans, despite the fact the Aussie was rested and started more matches on the bench than is normal for him in the latest Barclays Premier League season.

Asian clubs queue up for Cahill

The future of Everton midfielder Tim Cahillremains unclear after clubs in Saudi Arabia andChina became the latest to make a move for the Australia international.

Reports have suggested Saudi club Al Hilal has made a multi-million pound offer to lure the midfielder to the Middle East while Press Association Sport understands Chinese side Guizho Renhe has made an official approach to the 32-year-old.
Last week Cahill turned down turned down a $16 million three-year deal from an unnamed club in Saudi Arabia.

Tim Cahill is set to move to the New York Red Bulls, after Everton confirmed that it had reached a deal with the Major League Soccer club in the United States.
Cahill, 32, "will move to the Red Bulls for a nominal fee, subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical", his current club Everton said in a statement on its website.
The Australian midfielder, who has 55 caps for his country, will travel to the US in the next few days, the English club said.
Cahill, who had two years left on his contract, joined the Toffees from Millwall in 2004, scoring 68 goals in 278 appearances. He is one of Everton's longest-serving players.

Australia star Tim Cahill has spoken for the first time since his move to New York Red Bulls, revealing he never considered joining the A-League.

He said at this point in his career he decided to try Major League Soccer (MLS) because it "would have been a step backwards" to return to Australia's domestic league.
"And that's no disrespect. It is basically I want to still play at a high level," said Cahill.
The midfielder spent four days in Montreal, Canada as his arrival in New York was delayed, after problems arose in securing a work visa in the United States.
Cahill will make his debut with his new club in an international friendly against Tottenham Hotspur.

Cahill said he has only visited New York once before but is looking forward to living there with his family.
"It's a glamorous city and a great place to be," Cahill said.
"I am going to watch the NBA, go to Yankee games, see the NFL, things I can do with my kids."
New York was already a strong team before acquiring Cahill, sitting at the top of the MLS' Eastern Conference on 38 points.

Made the All Stars squad but had to pull out:

SOCCEROOS star Tim Cahill has been ruled out of Wednesday's Major League Soccer All Stars match against Italian side Roma with a suspected knee injury.
The New York Red Bulls midfielder hurt himself in the early minutes of Saturday's 4-3 win over Real Salt Lake after being caught in a high tackle with Yordany Alvarez.
The 33-year-old limped to the sideline moments later but returned in the 11th minute to head home a lofted free kick from Thierry Henry.
Cahill was reportedly seen with a severely swollen right knee after the match.

Tim Cahill has won the ESPY award for best player in Major League Soccer, America’s top football league.

The Socceroo and New York Red Bull was pitted against Montreal Impact’s Marco Di Vaio, LA Galaxy’s Robbie Keane and Chicago Fire’s Mike Magee.

Cahill picks up the award on the back of an impressive 2013/14 season in which he netted 11 goals.

China.

Tim Cahill has signed with Chinese giants Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, bringing to an end his time at New York Red Bulls. Cahill starred in the English Premier League with Everton before moving to the MLS, and said China was the best move for him now.

The 35-year-old fielded offers to play in England, Asia, the Middle East and Spain before announcing the move to China on Tuesday morning.

Disappointing that we won't be able to see him play in the A-league. Apparently he had no 'worthy' offers which is disappointing. I guess he'll be able to expand his brand in China.
