Interesting to note the 6PM start times on the bulk of the Saturday night matches. Better for the kids or is it TV related?

Also, the July 12th 7PM, we know is a doubleheader...so perhaps the June 8th 7PM start time is another indicator that US v. Portugal is a go for that date.

Also had heard that the September 18th match v. Colorado might be moved to July 27th for a doubleheader with the Juve v. Barca match, but now that it is an ESPN2 match, that doesn't appear likely.....

There is 1 4PM match in the summertime. 1. If you call 6PM getting baked in the seats, you're already baked.

actually that was a bad on my part. My basic reason for the message was to say that it looks as though I will have to squint to watch 11 home games this year. They should give every season ticket holder a pair of those 5 dollar blue blockers they sell down by the MCDoanalds on rt. 1

i wonder if the 6 pm starts have to do with t.v. time "available" on fsne?

anyway, if the 7/7:30 for dbl headers theory rings true....then it would seem the one breakers/revs overlap on 5/31 will probably NOT result in another local double. perhaps, that will change.

If you don't like staring into the sun, just buy tickets on the west side of the stadium.

Seriously, I'm glad there are so few weekday matches this year. Not counting July 4th (a Friday), the Revs only have two home and two away weekday matches. That should boost attendance averages league-wide. Also, fans from further out would be more likely to buy season tickets because they wouldn't automatically miss so many dates. Starting games earlier than 7:30 should also increase the "soccer smiles" crowd.

Beginning matches at 6 PM in the summer is a smart move because it reduces the fans' and players' exposure to midday heat. The lots would open at 3 PM as opposed to 1, and serious warmups would begin at 5 as opposed to 3. This also allows fans to enjoy summer beach activities and still make it to the game.

Starting at 4 PM in the spring and fall is also smart because the warmth of the sun would be welcome in mid-April and mid-October. Also, the early start makes for an easier drive home while it's still light outside.

All in all, this is probably the most attendance-friendly schedule I've seen.

i'm sorta not sure what you're talking about here?

last year there were 2 summer revs games at 4pm....its only been reduced to 1 game this season (well, then there was the 6/1 brkrs/revs double which sun was a problem but not heat). plus, any game in the summer at 6 is going to increase sun in our face and the heat for the players. then....you have to factor in all those gold cup double headers and other possible doubleheaders which will start early for sure.

for the spring...they aren't starting at 1 b/c of the heat (b/c they normally would've started those games at 7/7:30). however, all the games you listed are at 4pm e.s.t. b/c they're all on espn2 (the "soccer saturday" timeslot). and, the 'quakes, burn, and galaxy all get stuck playing at 1 or 2 pm if they are on tv. poor saps.

i'm not so ecstatic about this 6 pm stuff personally. i don't think it does a whole lot for the fans.

The only problem is that the seats closest to being in the shade are the sections that are closed off because of less than capacity crowds. A friend of mine who has season tickets gave me 2 tickets near the mid line for the 4:00 Mutts game. I remember looking longingly at the seats in the shade, and the yellow tape along the aisle that kept people out of those seats...

Times don't seem unmanageable to me, but then, I'm a relative newbie and I've got a good pair of sunglasses. :D

One question: Does the home opener usually have a 'soccer train' from south station, or will I have to hitch a ride out to Foxboro with somebody?

FYI...The DC United mid week match on July 30th is a likely candidate to get switched to a doubleheader with the Barca v. Juve. match on Sunday the 27th. DC is off that weekend and all the Revolution need to be able to do is breakdown gate reciepts properly between Champions World and MLS...

Mike, my wife and I live in Allston and go to 95% of the matches, so if you ever need a lift, see me a PM or e-mail.

    Best,

    one more espn2 game?

in the metrostars' "metro e-news" on tues feb 4, the following was reported at the end of the mail.
unless the revs lose an espn2 match, this gives them 8 total.....i think we'll take it.

how this affects the gold cup match at foxboro on this date (a 1pm start or 7pm?)....who knows? doesn't look like the revs have put out a release on this or updated their sched on the website.

Well, since I have a 500 mile round trip drive to El Razor, I have to say I like the mid-afternoon start times. At least we'll be home before 1 a.m. ....
