I talked with a CSR today who said TW has chosen not to pick up the package this year due to lack of sales last year. Considering they told everyone last year they were not carrying the package when they were this is no surprise. I would hope enough requests might get them to change thier minds so please call and let them know you want the Shootout. Mods, I understand that this is more of a B&M topic but I was hoping for a bit of leniency on this.
go with TV the direct way. www.directv.com and you'll stop paying out the ass for rental of a cable box (if you rent). not to mention, you'll probably get more channels for less money. (in other words, don't give money to TW Cincinnati if they don't have what you want.)
any of you heard of Wide Open West? looks like they have lower prices then timewarner. I'm going to go to Wide Open West i think. What kind of prices does DirectTv have?
Despite the fact that Pete sounds like a corporate shill, I've got DirecTV and love it. Especially with a TiVo with dual tuners. No tapes to jumble, but I can still watch whatever I want whenever I want. For example, the OSU-Iowa b-ball game is on at noon today, and it'll be waiting on my TiVo when I get home from work. Or this coming Sunday, when the Dune miniseries is on all evening, but so is all that terrific FOX sunday programming. TiVo has got it covered. DirecTV is great, but it's awesome with TiVo. If anyone reading this is considering switching to DirecTV from cable, look around for deals on TiVo sat boxes - it's worth it. D* has tons of channels not carried by the cable carriers (BBCA, FSW, DIY, ...), you can get network stations if you live in/near a big city (I get to watch Bob Nunnelly's fat ass cover the entire western part of Ohio every morning), and it virtually never goes out.
don't. WOW is sucky. NO FSW, NO Shootout. They also do not carry Sport TV, so if you want to tape a Crew game, you'll have to rely on someone else (assuming we go with sport this year). DirecTV runs you about $40 a month. (basic). Their website says Total Choice Premier has FSW, but it's about $80 a month. I know that's wrong, but i can't find any other info on their site. (Dish has DirecTV also has an EPL package. DirectTV programming info. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/packages/Landing.jsp On Dish Network, FSW is available starting at 42.99 monthly ($473.00 a year). But they have fewer satellites in the sky, which translates into less programming options (less games on shootout, etc).
My wife usually accuses me of being on TiVo's payroll. D* is a reasonably priced alternative to cable that isn't half as bad as the TW commericals paint it out to be. TiVo, OTOH, rawks. I'm thinking of naming my first born "TiVo".
indeed. 5.95 a month (converter rental) OR a one-time fee of ($50 or so to buy a DTV receiver). that 5.95 does add up real fast. Sooner or later, you'll have paid more than $500 for rental of a box. (and there are some functions that can only be received by an addressable box). Heck, even on satellite, you'll get digital espn, espn alternate and all that.... without paying out the wazoo (basic cable + digital cable + hd-receiver + hd packaging) for digital NBC.
anyone in columbus tried to call time warner? i called this morning and they said they would call back b/c the lady i talked to did not have any information regarding the shootout package... and i have not heard back. has anyone talked to TW columbus?
I called earlier in the week, but the customer service rep didn't know anything about the package. However, I think iNDemand has just recently sent out their information, so I'm going to try tomorrow. I think I'll try to get someone besides the typical CSR because if it's not on their screen they don't know the information.
From what I hear about WoW, I wouldn't bother at the moment unless you are in a very new install area (Canal Winchester for example). I've heard the digital cable isn't the greatest and the Internet has been problematic. So far, Insight has been much more expensive but I'll live with it until I can't afford it anymore.
i might try tomorrow again...i did get a response from my e-mail: We do not currently have any information on our intraweb pertaining to the MLS Shootout. I was unable to find current information by doing a search on InDemand's website either. Please visit our homepage at www.twcol.com or contact customer service at 481-5050 for updates.
Regarding shootout. I really don't know how it's done, but it picks up the local feeds and puts it on national PPV. And with no local feeds, there's gonna be no shootout. (hint hint to mls teams... so far i've only seen a few fire games on FSChicago).
