So I was reading a Walt Wheeler article, I think about the KC game, and it mentioned Elliott's difficulties in the 4-4-2 as a holding mid and maybe it was time to give Szetela some time to play and learn from his mistakes. Just curious what others thought. Should Danny be thrown in there to learn, much like an NFL team does with a young quarterback when the season appears over? Or should the Crew wait until the team is really mathematically eliminated? I say play Danny. Take Martino or Elliott out, I don't care. If Danny is going to get first team action, it should come when there's something at stake, not when the team is already out of the playoffs. Or course, we could have this discussion about any number of young Crew players like Vasquez, Sutton, etc.
Danny is out at least through tomorrow with lingering concussion problems, same thing that kept him from traveling to KC.
Fid-- Have you been able to get any answer to why Danny was cleared to play the full 90 against Egypt, as well as his sub role in the two matches prior to that for the U-20s?
I forget, how did he get this concussion? At the YWC? As for the question, yes, some of these players need to get some PT, but it won't happen, as Greg is too worried about saving his own skin. There is only so much that a reserve league match can provide these players. They need to be on the 1st team to get their skills to the next level.
Nahh, it was against the Metrostars Reserves on May 29th. I remember the play, he was knocked in the head pretty hard. I guess when he got back from the WYC he complained of headaches and dizziness, went to see a specialists and they advised he take a break for a week or so to see if the condition improved.
