and think about who get berth to what?

Possible competitions for now and near future
    --------------------------------------------

Club World Championship --------------------- Dec. (possible 1 ticket)
    C. Champions League ------------------------ Aug. - Apr. (4 tickets)
Copa Libertadores --------------------------- Feb. - Jun. (* possible 1 ticket)
Copa Sudamericana -------------------------- Sep. -Dec. (possible 1-2 tickets)
    SuperLiga ------------------------------------ Jul. - Aug. (4 tickets)
Pan Pacific ----------------------------------- Feb. (maybe 4 tickest)
US Open Cup --------------------------------- Jul. - Oct. (8 tickets)
(* C.L. speculation in 2-3 years. Anything missing?)

Now the big question the Berth
    ------------------------------

    [Club World Championship]
    Winner of CCL

    [C. Champions League]
MLS Cup winner & SS winner (first round bye) + E. or W. conf. regular season most point who's not SS & US Open Cup winner

    Winner gets Berth to CWC

    [Copa Libertadores]
winner of SuperLiga = 1 ticket
(or combine SuperLiga and FMF InterLiga, I think this is a meaningful way to keep SuperLiga)

    [Copa Sudamericana]
    CCL runner up
** would be nice to lobby and add one MLS own ticket, and give it in the order of
    1. MLS Cup winner (if not qulified CWC or Copa Lib. or Copa Sud. from CCL)
    2. SS winner (if not qulified CWC or Copa Lib. or Copa Sud. from CCL)
    3. MLS Cup runner up or E. or W. Conf. most point who's not SS (if not qulified CWC or Copa Lib. or Copa Sud. from CCL)
    4. SuperLiga MLS team best performer

    [SuperLiga]
    Top 4 regular season.

Winner gets berth to Copa Lib.
If not winner, best MLS performer may go to Copa Sud.

    [Pan Pacific]
top 4 regular season best performers who doesn't participate in CCL or Copa Lib.

    [US Open Cup]
top 8 regular season best performers who's not already qulified for CCL

    Winner gets berth to CCL

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well I just brainstormed it. It's pretty difficult logics. I think this'll make most of the teams intereted through the year!!!

Any correction, addition, subtracrtion, comments, ideas, conversation, all welcome.

I personally feel like that is too much. I am not a big fan of simultaneous tournaments in any league. Not to mention the regular league play that would at various times coincide with most of those tournaments. What is the attendence like at US open cup and some of the others? I feel like it is hard enough to get fans out to regular season games let alone some random tournaments most of the people have never hear of. ie the family fans, new soccer/MLS fans.

I heard attendance for SuperLiga was good.

Usually after a couple of rounds, attendance for CCC has been OK especially mathces against Mexican teams.

attendance for Copa Sud. and Copa Lib should be OK

attendance for US Open Cup has been pretty was bad, but now we are talking spicying up with a ticket to CCL.

If we schedule and distribute it well, it should be great.

With the newer/bigger Champions League format, I hope there's enough new revenue generation to can SuperLiga down the line. It was fun to watch last year, but there's just too much and it ranks low on the significance scale.

I tend to agree. Now that we have the Concacaf Champions League with 4 Mexican and 4 US teams, we should get rid of Superliga.

2 tickets to Pan American Cup. It's on their website. I think it'll stay that way if it goes on another year, unless they rotate who gets 2 shots. This year its 2 for MLS, 1 for Japan and 1 for Australian. OR if Korea gets involved

I just cannot wait for Suerliga to start again. That tournament meant a lot for both USA and Mexico. The highest ratings of soccer came at that time. The MLS gained a lot of respect.

    [everyone should surf the web!]

Really, I think we have about as much soccer as any other country's top league now. Every team is now eligible for a Champions League, they have their domestic league, a cup competition, and most countries have another auxiliary competition like the League Cup in England. We have the SuperLiga. And CONCACAF is not going to give four spots to the USSF without first making sure that MLS Clubs want to participate in those extra group stage matches.

I think Superliga will become the consolation prize for the teams that don't get into the CCL, sorta like our version of the UEFA Cup.

Remember the winner of the Superliga gets an invite to the Pan Pacific tourney as well.

You forgot that the winners of the Libertadores and the winner of the Sudamericana play the Recopa against each other, contrary to the CWC and the japanese league cup winner cup CONCACAF teams can play that like Pachuca did.

I'm just happy that CONCACAF has expanded their Champions Cup into a League format. It will help our clubs and our American players better experience for the international stage and they can learn alot if they are to be chosen for the Nats.

I understand people are concerned about fixture congestion, but let's be honest here, MLS needs these new competitions to mix in with the current ones. At the same time MLS has to expand the rosters to help compensate for these new tourneys as well with the current ones.

Once every club has their own stadium, then MLS can controll the scheduling alot better and they could start earlier in the beginning of March or the last weekend of February. I understand that we would be in the heart of the NCAA Basketball season as well as the Conference Tournaments and the Final Four Tournament, but we can't worry about those things anymore. Our league has to grow.
