It is finally here. The US Open Cup Final. It’s a match we’ve been waiting a month for but not able to focus on entirely. After all, in the meantime we had the Cascadia Cup to win and Champions League knockout stage to qualify for. But now it is finally here. It’s a match that we’ve been lucky to see the last three years running and for Sounders FC to have won the last two years. However, cup finals don’t usually come around with this same frequency. Hell, there are still teams in the MLS that haven’t won ANY cups despite being in the league for years (here’s looking at you New York, enjoy your pre-season trophies). On the other hand there are teams such as Chicago who are not slouches and have won the US Open Cup four times as well as the double in 1998 with the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup. As you head to your second, third or first cup final take a moment to honor those who will be watching from abroad or have stood with us in the Brougham End and won’t be in attendance. Here’s to all our Armed Service Group members who are deployed and will be watching from abroad. Here’s to all those who are too ill and won’t be able to attend the cup final. Here’s to the fallen Sounders Soldiers who are no longer with us. Let’s make them proud come Tuesday night. Let that be your motivation. Let that help you go mental. On Tuesday, let’s let the watching world know that we’re the best supporters in MLS.
