OK...so its the offseason, and I've been daydreaming about DC United. I was thinking about how unique it would be if DC United were to have their own SSS in the next couple of seasons, if we, the fans, could have our say in naming the new stadium. Now I know that some people will say that this sort of daydreaming is jumping the gun and could even jinx a new stadium deal...but bear with me. I believe that if the fans expect to have a say in something like a stadium name then they need to be proactive. I don't think we can wait until after we start hearing about artist renderings, groundbreaking plans, etc. to have an effect on the naming of the grounds. So, I made this thread to start collecting all of the ideas that we have. Eventually, all of the names in this thread could be then put into polls to filter out what we the fans think are the best names. But we don't have to worry about that right now because we've got plenty of time . Oh yeah...and it's OK to think out of the box regarding location too. If you think that United's new stadium is going to be built in Virginia and you want it to be called NOVA park...then go ahead. Take this seriously, or have fun with it. I'll start off with some of the ideas that I've heard thrown around these boards: -Anacostia -United Park -Poplar Point -Ronald Reagan Memorial Stadium (i kid )
I have wondered about Adidas buying naming rights. I asked Stephen about this at the sale, as a means to minimize DCSA control of the facility. Adidas Park Etcheverry Park
I would assume that there could be some sort of corporate naming rights involved, just like the Home Depot Center. But, those names can change over time. I think that if the stadium had a location-based, or team-based name from the beginning (especially if it was picked by the fans), then this would be what sticks over time.
Here's a few more: Red and Black Stadium Riverside Stadium Capitol Stadium, Capital Stadium (nah...people will think that the Capital's play there)
United Bank Park (corporate sponsor name built in) at Poplar Point. Or to shorten it United Park or Poplar Point.
Casa de Campeones El Diablo Park, welcome to the Infierno Eagle Park Captain Morgans Field on the Anacostia
United Airlines Arena (at Poplar Point) Yeah, it'd be a new sponsorship and a patch on the jersey, too. United Park at Poplar Point would be good as well.
With the financial mess that United Airlines is in, I don't think they'll be sponsoring or naming anything except their lawyers to represent them in Bankruptcy court. United Park at Poplar Point sounds good to me.
Name the stadium after the Supporter Clubs. Welcome to Estadio La Norte at Screaming Eagles' Court in Barra Brava Boulevard ok back to my winter hibernation.
Let me first start off by saying, living in So Cal and not being a hardcore supporter (Rimando is the reason I root for DC for the most part, he went to my HS)..I know I have really no say in this. But I think it would probably wind up being named Adidas Stadium...don't ask me why, I just see this happening.
I like the English parks where they go by their location (ie: White Hart Lane) (also works for places like Three River Stadium) so Poplar Point works. It also works for TV coverage of games, "Let's go to Poplar Point" or House of Death Diablo's Lair Even though the money is nice from corporate sponsorship, corporate naming for stadiums sucks...although I do like the use of the Toolbox for the Home Depot Center.
