It's time for all supporters of the war ages 18-34 to put up or shut up. Your armed forces need you. Iraq needs you. Freedom needs you. Don't be a hypocrite. Don't hide behind the skirts of the ROTC. Stop expecting other people to die for your cause becayse you're too "comfortable" or cowardly to sacrifice a couple of years in Iraq. Sign up today! Reserves Near Breaking Point The Pentagon is taxing its Reserve soldiers "nearly to the breaking point" with repeated and extended deployments in its two ongoing wars, the ranking Democrat on the House military panel said Wednesday. And the committee's Republican chairman said recent moves to find more combat soldiers for Iraq -- including the use of troops who normally train others -- could "mortgage the future" of the nation's military.
those that stay in, you mean. using the air force as an example, since the war, aircraft mechanics have had to run 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week. what do they do when thier enlistment is up? run like hell. same goes for c-130 loadmasters who spend 300+ days a year deployed somewhere and are flying thier asses off. a lot of people flying 5s left after 9.11 when they were running 3 weeks out, 12 hours home, rinse, repeat. having the military overstretched and overworked is going to do nothing to help the pre-existing problems with retention.
The Lt I work with, his brother is a Army reservist (engineering unit) and they just got back from a year-long deployment to Iraq. Something like 90% of that unit does not intend to re-up. (Admittedly, that number is second-hand word-of-mouth, so take it with a grain of salt. I think you can take it to the bank that most of those guys won't be re-enlisting.)
Never was in this kind of service and I am older retired now. I actually have nothing better to do now. I would be interested in going I am not fit for combat in the field. Can't move any more, but the chances are I could help in some way so I would like to go. First thing I would like to start a youth soccer league over there. Have the start up money to get it off the ground. That would be a good thing to do right? Then if they ever need someone to do what others won't do I am your man. I wonder if they would let civilians go? I will check with my senator my pal Hiliary.
Yeah. The pay's supposed to be pretty good. Hillary? I've got a better source for you: www.halliburton.com
if they dont reenlist they do what my birth mothers husband is gonna do... hes been in the army for 20 years. hes currently in iraq, has been there since last september and will be there till this november. he WAS supposed to get to go back home on leave but they cancelled that for him, nice... anyways, he is going to retire, get his monthy pension, and hes already got it lined up to be a civilian contractor, doing essentially the same job he has in the military. the thing is, now he wont have to deal with the military ****************, and oh yeah, hell get paid about 5x what he is currently making... (and yeah it requires him to go back to iraq, but for that money he wont turn it down)
Yeah, if we get into another war in the next 6 months. After that, Uncle Sam's Big Green Killin' machine's gonna be in the s**t, 'cause ain't no-one but the most desperate or most loyal going to sign up for more of this abuse. By abuse I don't mean treatment, I mean the grind of one-year combat deployed, one-year (if you're lucky) home, rinse, repeat.
How many military do we have in Germany now? Why do we need them there again? Also have 30 thousand at the very least in South Korea. South Koreans don't want us there. If something happen there the N. koreans would roll over the boarder with a million and kill off our 30thousand. So why do they need to be there? Other places can use those men no?
Moving some Army Units from Europe(Germany/Bosnia/Kosovo) and Korea has been in the works for a while. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/global-deployments.htm W/Rumsfeld is using this to justify not increasing the size of the active duty force.
The biggest hit our military will take is with the Reserves and Guardsmen, most of whom will run like hell from the military when their ETS date arrives. It's been really bad advertising, especially for the Guard, who are neither prepared nor motivated for overseas combat. Sure, lots of actives will get out, too, but good luck recruiting Guardsmen, who are told their primary responsibility is civil defense at home, yet they get shipped to combat due to shortages. When I was in actives, we used to laugh our asses off at reserves and guardsmen (how they looked and how poorly prepared they were, most notably). But, replying to the first post, I agree. Get Toby Keith's fat butt over there, too, if he wants to put a boot up someone's ass, instead of just singing about it. (...And speaking of Toby Keith, doesn't that moron look just like James Hetfield after a butter overdose?)
I give Toby an artistic pass. Considering, how many times that song's been played, he's stuck a boot up a million Arab asses. Send him over there for real and he'd be lucky to get that Tony Llama up one.
Youth soccer? Go for the gusto man... job's open Fearful Stange Quits Iraq http://www.soccer365.com/EUROPEAN_NEWS/Rest_of_Europe/page_109_75553.shtml
toby keith should be shot regardless of whether its in the united states or overseas... but thats a whole other thread unto itself.
This is no joke. I was in the Coast Guard and even that branch is getting pushed to run at full throttle. Perhaps some of you might have seen the announcement that they will be boarding every foreign vessel that comes into a US port. I recently talked to a guy whos father is a CG reservist and does his drills doing port security in Savannah, Georgia. He was activated immediately after 9/11 and has been on active duty ever since. None of this makes for an environment condusive to re-enlisting.
Sorry tough guy but I'm out. Too old. If I were young today I'd become a sniper. I'd go right into the middle of it. I did have the chance to go in as a contractor at $375K/yr but declined. I could still go now as my company does energy services. That would be fine with me.
Iraqis can teach you soccer, silly, not the other way around. Maybe you meant to say youth baseball league.
Think so must be talking about yourself. I have yet to find anybody I could not help with their game. That was one of the reasons why I became a coach in 1970 while I was still a player. Why did Greece win do you think or were they just lucky? What did they do different then the other teams in the tournament? I am waiting for another stupid answer from you. So please don't disappoint me ok.
Tough guy? I'm not the one beating my chest for the war in Iraq. Like you are, tough guy. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=540&u=/ap/20040708/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq&printer=1 BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents fired mortar rounds Thursday at a headquarters used by U.S. and Iraqi forces in the city of Samarra, destroying the building and killing four American soldiers and one Iraqi guardsman, the military said. A fifth U.S. soldier was unaccounted for and 20 others were wounded in the attack, said Maj. Neal O'Brien, the spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division. U.S. troops secured the area around the collapsed building.
Um... it's probably a good thing for the armed forces that you aren't in charge of recruiting. I think they pretty much try to keep all the deaths and dismemberments on the down low.
