If he had done something similar in the US, there'd be a decent chance cops would have shot and killed him on site.

I know @Auriaprottu is shocked that a white man can't remember when black people were murdered by cops.

Is that a “decent chance?” I don’t think so.

This is like the conversation of about a month ago where someone said the first police forces were about slavery. That wasn’t true. The reason I argued the point is that lefties who believe policing isn’t because citizens want to feel safe are wrong, and are going to advocate for losing policies. Citizens do want to feel safe, which is why every sensible Democrat ran from “defund the police.”

Overrating the amount of racism is just as much a prescription for bad* policies as underrating it. This forum has a bunch of folks who are middle class or better, but also members of a disadvantage group. As a result, the talk around here is very unbalanced in the class vs. race discussion. If it isn’t an echo chamber it’s close enough. Ignoring class issues is bad history, bad politics, and bad economics. It’s elitist, which is the opposite of what Democrats should stand for.

Y’all should talk to the 20 somethings in your lives. I know a couple who are politically engaged, and all they ever do is bitch about “capitalism.” Not the concept, not in any kind of rigorous way. Just the word, really. For that group, it’s almost all about class, with race Almost meaningless. Gender is still pretty central to that group, from what I’ve seen.

Not really a mass shooting, but a Hispanic man, Jorge Gomez, in body armor and carrying weapons was shot and killed by Las Vegas police as he walked away from a George Floyd protest in 2020. The crowd had been ordered to leave and he was complying when police started shooting him with rubber bullets/batons, shockingly enough, he started to run away and 4 police saw an armed Hispanic man running away and shot him 19 times. Police claimed he raised a rifle towards the officers when they opened fire. Expert witnesses in his family's lawsuit against the LV police and the police officers involved in the shooting testified that he was facing from the officers when he was shot and killed. Video of the shooting was inconclusive on whether he was raising his rifle, but witness testimony said he was not.

Surprisingly, two of the four police officers that shot him were found to be personally liable and a jury awarded his family $6.5 million.

I also can't remember exactly when it happened, but a black man in body armor and carrying a rifle approached police during another shooting at a Black Lives Matter protest so that they wouldn't mistake him as the shooter, police arrested him and, initially, reported that they had arrested a person of interest in the shooting.

Compare that to Kyle Rittenhouse, who, after shooting several protestors at a BLM protest, walked past a number of police officers as they rushed to the scenes of the shootings.

 

So it's clear for everyone: when responding to Dave you must provide every instance of something happening, including any statistical analyses, to counteract his broad statements.

 

Also, if he doesn't remember it happening, it didn't happen.

Lots of crap on social media and even some traditional media pushing a scenario that the police didn't react quickly and allowed the attack to go on for 30 minutes or more. The above article from a conservative newspaper in Australia outlines what happened when based on video footage from various sources.

 

Probably 40 now. There has been so much crap on social media ranging from the fellow that grabbed one of the shooters and took a gun off him is a Lebanese Marionite Christian (he is a Syrian born muslim) to female police officers were hiding from the gunmen.

Sad news from Canada:

‘Gunperson in dress’ kills nine in school shooting

A shooter described as a “female in a dress” killed nine people in a remote part of Canada on Tuesday.

Seven people died after being shot at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia, while two more people were found dead at a nearby home.

Another 27 people were hurt, including two with life-threatening injuries, in the country’s worst school shooting in more than 30 years.

 

The link updated the story to describe the shooter as a trans female.

 

Yes, shes 18 and started to transition 6 years ago. No clear motive yet. Most of the kids who died were 12 or 13 years old.

 

I really hope we can get our mass shooters back to things like Jason Aldean concerts.
