How about Brad Friedel for D.C. United goalie? ... seems like Nick R. is tied up with bigger plans with the U.S. mens team and his focus does not seem to be on the team or the goal. We definately need a goalie of Brad's caliber to step in and show d.c. how to play the game: goalie speaking! How to go about getting Bruce Arena to make an overture to keeper extroidinaire Brad Friedel...maybe offer him the moon to come to Washington?

Dude. Rimando has been injured and hasn't played in any of the recent friendlies. I imagine his 'focus' is pretty squarely on his sore ankle at the moment. He was the best keeper in the league last season. Brad Friedel would cost a gazillion dollars. Let's stick with Nicky.

Brad is the best keeper in the EPL. Why the hell would he come to MLS?

    Welcome aboard IntheNet! :)

The general consensus about our goalie position is that our team MVP last season--goalkeeper Nick Rimando--is not only a stellar keeper, but also a fantastic value. Given MLS' low salary cap of $1.7M per year, that's an important thing to consider.

Brad Friedel currently is under contract to Blackburn Rovers for well above the MLS maximum salary of $260k, so financially, it's just not an option at this time. While Brad Friedel is a great keeper, he's not available, and not likely to be available for at least the next 3 years. If he does come back to MLS, he's already stated his preference for the Columbus Crew, as he's from Cleveland, Ohio.

DC United's primary worry is not replacing Rimando, it's losing Rimando. He's shown enough ability to become marketable to foreign teams for far more money than he makes in MLS. I think this was the reason that DC United drafted the most talented goalkeeper in the college ranks, Doug Warren, with a high second round draft pick. If/when Rimando does leave MLS, I suspect that Warren will be groomed as his replacement.

Again, welcome to the board. It's great to have you here. I look forward to your contributing to our many active threads here on the DC United board.

    ### MODERATOR'S NOTE ###

OK. I've gotten over my intial confusion and I've looked into this. I found that this is the second time you've posted this Friedel to DC United thing on this board.

Now I'm willing to go along with this sort of absurdity once - especcially with newbies (which you are not having registered last year). But you've already read the responses to this suggestion on the old thread. You know it's totally unreasonable and it's not going to happen. So this post is little more than a willful absurdity and, to my mind, posting absurdities of this sort is a form of trolling.

On the previous thread revelation closed it for being silly. I am going to do the same with this one.

Thread Closed. PM with comments and questions.
