I didn't know it, but Earnie also has a younger brother in Holland playing football. Not for a proteam yet though, but that can soon change if his deal with FC Den Bosch will become official. The 19-year old winger now plays for the amateurs of Udi '19. In the first place he will be signed by Den Bosch for the reserves.

I get the feeling from the chronology that Tim was born in Holland (because I believe that Earnie and Tim's parents moved to Holland in 1978). But Tim would be U.S. eligible because of their father. Who would Tim want to play for? Us or Holland?

The reports so far didn't give any details about his nationality.

Regardless of where you are born, if one of your parents is American, so are you.

If he plays like his brother, it could be worth our while to get him capped tied to the US.

Please keep the supply of Dutch Americans coming.

There's a Dutch-American named Michael Evans who is maybe 25 or so and played for VV Venlo and a few other clubs. Believe his dad is American. However, he's had some injury problems and appears to have fallen off the map.

Given that the last names are the same, we can assume Tim and Earnie have the same father. And since the Dad is the American one in Earnie's family, that makes Tim an American.

With that out of the way, how good is this kid? What level is Den Bosch in in Holland? How old is he and which youth national team (level, not country) should I be clamoring for him to get called into and what position does he play, left or right wing? If its right wing, I think Rongen should call him in just on the basis of being a legacy!

FC Den Bosch are currently fourth in the first division this year (after relegating last season from the top division) and are already qualified for the play-offs which can bring them back to the topdivision.

Tim Stewart is born 01-12-1983 (1 december that is)

I think Evans has retired from prof. football.

Can't wait to see an Arena/Stewart/Wegerle lineup for the Junior Nats.

Thanks for the info. Since he's an 83, I thing Rongen should give him a look. Hell, what could it hurt?

Well, nothing... But I was told at one time that Tim has already been a part of the ODP Europe program. There are any number of reasons why, if that's true, he might not have already progressed to the regional level and/or beyond, but it may also be that he's not an elite player at this time. Personally, I'd love for that NOT to be the case -- would be nice to keep the Stewart train rolling.

EDIT: Here is the webpage for Udi '19.

    http://www.udi19.nl/

You can see confirmation of Tim by clicking on "Senioren", then "UDI-1". It mentions that he was a new addition to the team for the 2002-2003 season.

There is also a squad photo there, but nobody that looks much like Earnie -- and the players aren't labelled in any way. (Maybe the fellow third from the left in the front row?)

He's listed as an attacker and wears the #2 jersey for you memorabilia junkies.

I can. I can not stand the nepotism inherent in American football. Take Wergele for instance. The kid would not make a State ODP team if his last name wasn't what it is. I know, I was a Regional selector when he was a 16. The kid is, like Jr. Arena and Jr. Bradley, nice average players, but none of them are anywhere near saviors of American soccer. How does Jr. Arena go from riding pine in college a year ago to playing in MLS games? Oh, that's right. The coach has the father to thank for his career.

Not gonna comment on his abilities 'cause I really haven't seen him play, but it took me all of 3 minutes to discover the kid splayed 1600 minutes and appeared in 19 games, starting every time, his senior year.

Maybe having the bench in the middle of the field is the key to UVA's success....

I think you people should learn to spell his first name. It's not Tim Stewart it's Team Stewart.

His senior year is the only one he started--but even at UVA, the coach there is a former player of BA. So if GG (who owes his job to the kid's father)didn't even start him til Jr./Sr. year, is he really on a par as the DOZENS of players in the ACC that were good enough to start as Freshman that never got drafted? I don't think I'm out of line raising this issue either. It is a legitimate question.

I have been standing up for Kenny Arena since he first got invited to the U20 team. I don't care if you think he isn't a good player but at least get your FRIKKIN' FACTS STRAIGHT!!!

Here are Arena's stats from his four seasons at UVa, where he was a defensive midfielder. The only season he wasn't a regular starter was as a freshman.

    1999 - 20 games, 9 starts, 1023 minutes, 0 goals, 3 assists
    2000 - 22 games, 21 starts, 1,832 minutes, 2 goals, 3 assists
    2001 - 19 games, 19 starts,1,624 minutes, 3 goals, 3 assists
    2002 - 17 games, 16 starts, minutes unavailable, 1 goal, 3 assists

    http://virginiasports.ocsn.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/arena_kenny00.html

As a senior, despite missing part of the season with a virus, he was named Second Team All-ACC. I guess those ACC coaches were all trying to suck up to his old man.

He was also second team All-State. I guess those SID's at the colleges in Virginia were trying to suck up to Bruce Almighty, too.

    http://virginiasports.ocsn.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/121102aaa.html

In his two years with the U20 team, Arena played in 32 games overall, 22 of which he started, scoring 3 goals and 1 helper. Of those games, 8 were U20 international matches. He started 7 of 8 and scored one goal. More importantly, in the games that mattered in which Kenny played - qualifying and the World Youth Championship - the US was 2-0-1. In those same competitions when he didn't play, the US 1-2-1.

Now he's playing in MLS where his role appears to be, for now, to come on at the end of a game and help protect a lead. He's played three times, albeit briefly, for the team with the second best record in MLS, and the MetroStars have yet to yield a goal while he's played.

Look, Kenny Arena will never be a star. He's role player but he plays his role well and folks need to quit bagging on him and get off this nepotism conspiracy. Jobs are too fragile and hard to come by in MLS and US Socce for this kid to do this much based on who his old man is.

But, if you aren't going to agree with that point, at least keep your trap shut till the opinins your basing your conclusions on are coming from information that is ACCURATE.

... but by comparison, the nepotism in Europe must be worse. After all, Udinese went so far as to sign the kid ...

It seems obvious to me that he has it in for Kenny Arena because he's the son of Steve Sampson.
