Sure, he’s spending billionaire Phil Anschutz’s money, but the one-time whiz kid hired at age 24 as GM of the MISL Baltimore Blast in 1979 has been responsible for positioning AEG as a global force in developing, building and operating sports facilities. Leiweke helped build the luxurious Staples Center in Los Angeles and Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., the state-of-the-art soccer and tennis complex. AEG is developing soccer stadiums in Chicago and New Jersey, and in the Millennium Dome in London, and a new arena in Berlin.
