Strong rumours building over this side of the Atlantic suggest you have made/will make an approach for Tim Cahill.
Tim Cahill is exactly the type of player the Red Bulls should be seeking, an attacking midfielder who has had consistent success in a top league and for his national team. However, I do wish we could get someone younger. He'll turn 33 in December, and his production this year in goals and assists was the lowest it has been at Everton.
Cahill has not been prone to injury in the past. He would be a good pickup and is the creative type of player the team has been searching for, although he did not have a great season with Everton last year. I do hope that it would either be a short term deal through the end of the season or through the end of next year.
He made 41 appearances for Everton last year, although I think I remember him missing some time after the Asian Cup in 2011. Outside of that, he's pretty much been a workhorse.
I don't know that I would call him a creative player, but he is a determined, tough as nails midfielder who can also produce goals. Age and health are big concerns. The Red Bulls need to look at someone younger, but it's not the worst idea ever.
So this actually seems to be happening... all things considered it looks like a great signing! I'd ask about how we'll fit him under the cap but that would take a PhD in economics and a private investigator to infiltrate MLS headquarters to actually find out how much allocation money we have to throw around.
Agreed. More of an MLS type of player than the soft "CAM" type some people have been screaming about.
At 32 I think Tim is past it. He is not longer a squad player in the EPL. Hopefully he can get back on track on NY
Nah, PhDs in Economics don't know sh*t, take it from me. Besides, it's not like MLS actually has rules about this stuff, it's pretty clear they're making things up as they go along. You know, like in "1984": Q: "How much allocation money does Red Bull have?" A: "$340,000" (interrogator turns up the juice) Q: "How much allocation money does Red Bull have?" A: (screaming in pain) "$150,000" (interrogator squeezes the pliers) Q: "How much allocation money does Red Bull have?" A: (screaming in more pain) "Whatever Don Garber says they have" Interrogator: Congratulations, you've been sufficiently re-educated.
Seems a mixed recation, some fans thinking it was time for him to leave others sad to see him go, if he can remain injury free he'll be a great signing i think.
He's a legend. Had he had even a passable season last year I think more people would be upset, especially for such a low fee. But I dont think anyone can deny it was time for him to move on with Osman, Naismith, and Barkley all either better or younger (or both) for that role. Wage relief gives us a better shot at getting Pienaar back which is crucial, imo. I dont much care for NY, but will wear my Everton shirt on Aug. 3rd to the game. Good luck and hope he does great for you except against Houston of course.
Cahill is exactly the type of player we need who has played that cAM #10 position plus he also good on set pieces where up until this year we sucked. With Cahill, Cooper, Holgersson, Cooper and Le Toux we now have quite a good group of players who will be dangerous on corner kicks and other set pieces. No one ever said a CAM is soft? Cahill is also the type of player that will allow us to deploy a 4-3-3 with Cooper, Henry and Le Toux up front. I think there might be another move coming as a result of this transaction.
To me, he's an Everton legend. I love the guy. Was my favorite on Everton for years. It's like seeing your old girlfriend going out with another guy and even though you knew the relationship should probably end somehow, you still loved her. Take care of him you ****ers. If you hurt him or treat him badly, I will hunt you all down.
It's more like your old girlfriend has to move to a new country(US and NY specifically) for work as she was needed in her current office(ahem England)
I'm in both camps. His ability is declining but it's still sad to see someone who gave you so many good memories go.
Don't worry, if there's one thing NY fans love is a workhorse player, so long as Cahill puts in the effort the fans will treat him well.
I think he resembles Lindpere and LeToux more than Adu and Feilhaber. Whatever you choose to call the two different kind of players.
