I just had a memory of SSV helping folks in KC when Hunt announced selling the Wizards. What a long way both groups of fans have come. I know, it's not there yet, but it sure looks academic.
Those going to the council meeting tomorrow may get an extra treat....an all out brawl. Channel 9 just reported that the city manager-mayor fight with the city council will likely carry into the meeting tomorrow. I just hope they approve Three Trails before they start swinging.
This is great news. I may be able to make it tomorrow to the meeting... at least for an hour or so. With Funkhouser on board now it should be a slam dunk
I watched the replay of the meeting on Channel 2. It was good tv. Funkhouser spoke a couple of times. A guy who seemed certifiable told the Council, similar to in San Diego, they could all go to jail for the way they've handled TIF, which he had single-handedly uncovered. Funkhouser responded that what got San Diego officials in trouble was lying about the city financials. He essentially laughed him out of the room. Richard Tolbert promised a coming race war over the development. Woody Woodruff was back with his boxing gloves asking if the Save the Bannister Mall group needed to "put on a hat and start dancin'" to get heard. John Sharp's reactions in the background were priceless. I'm usually superstitious about these things, but, from listening to the tone of the whole thing, tomorrow is most definitely a slam dunk.
I'm surprised George didn't beat me to it, but here is this morning's article on the FRONT PAGE of the Star: http://www.kansascity.com/105/story/401551.html Along with an article about the Triangle construction being officially finished this week, this area in south KC is starting to look up all of a sudden. WARNING: large picture of the Funk is about to overtake your computer screen.
Maybe a CRAZY HAT. A race war? Really? When I hear those words I think of LA after the Rodney King verdicts. Oh wait....can they loot a closed mall? If they want to go ahead and burn it down, by all means, hand the people some matches and gasoline! It would probably save some time and demolition costs.
FYI these are the sections added to the ordinance that convinced the Funk. I'm still incredulous that a Mayor would flip flop this way. Wonder how the negotiations with the city manager are to proceed when we apparently don't have one!
here's the video link from several pages back. http://kansascity.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=2
Is it 414 E 12th? I'm heading over in an hour for this historic event and I'd really like to have some vague idea of where to go.
Well, that's where I planned on wandering over too, so god willing? Also, if any one is in the in on this, is there any specific ettiquette involved in council meetings like this? i.e. how free to come and go are observers if one has to cut out earlyor arrive late or field a phone call?
You are expected to yell at the top of your lungs and throw blue and white streamers when they finalize the vote. On second thought, the streamers might get you in trouble.....
So....What's going on? Has the vote happened already? I'm watching the council meeting, I joined at 2:30pm, but no mention of anything wizards or Three Trails. Did I miss it alread? Or is it coming up? Thanks in advance.
Well bc my computer decided it wants to shut down everytime it creates a pdf, I'm not going to be there on time. I'm going to try to make it a little late.
