Griffin (my 4-yr-old towhead) and I decided that 1) 6 months is too long to wait to see another Earthquakes game in person and 2) mommy deserves next weekend off, and (key fact) mommy agreed, so I booked a room at the Torrance Courtyard (3 mi from stadium, $59 via Orbitz) and I'm waiting on a callback from James Mullins to secure my tickets. Griffin and I will see you in Section 127 at HDC next Sunday. DougO
Re: For those who stays in Hampton Inn Carson Alexi, check your email. I'll be catching Black Dream (99% certain) Friday in Oakland so I'll see you there. Cheers!
Just wondering, do we have any update from the Galaxy ticket folks on the number of Quakes section tix sold so far? IMO, it would be a shame to not have at least 1K-2K make the trip down. As for me, I'm very much sitting on the fence at the moment, as I need to be at work Monday bright and early and can't afford the plane. And oh, the irony, I will be in the greater Los Angeles area for Thanksgiving but can't take the days off prior. ARRGH! If anyone is even remotely interested in a down-and-back (leave at the crack-o'-dawn/return by midnight) drive from the Monterey-Salinas area on Sunday, PM me!
Odds are that you were jumpin up and down the last two weekends and you nearly were singing and screamin with us anyway......everyone in the stadium could hear the semi-controlled elation tryin to break through into "singin and screamin"! We were feelin it!
It's just a good thing y'all couldn't hear some of the things I was screamin' when the microphone was off! But, if necessary, I will let them loose on Sunday.
This reminds me a very famous Soviet TV announcer (a legend of a kind) Nikolai Ozerov who once said during a live tranlation "Shot!!! GOAAAAAAAL! ... F%^K!!! Hit the post..." It was really hardcore (back in Soviet Union days a person could've been arrested and serve 15 days in jail for saying words like these in public). He quitted the job shortly after.
What are some of the advantages and disadvantages between choosing the Carson Hilton and the Carson Hampton Inn? And how far away are each from both the airport and the stadium (well, we know that the latter is about 1/4-1/2 mile away form HDC...)?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Stay at the Hilton everyone - we want to make sure we outnumber the Chicago fans who are staying there.
For those of us who booked Hampton Inn already: we can take a cab to Hilton, and join the rest of fans for The Great Saturday Night Bash...
The Hilton probably has more amenities, and the Hampton is probably cheaper, depending on the deals you can find. The Hilton is about 2 miles south of the stadium. The stadium is about 12 miles from both LAX and Long Beach Airport. Anywhere you find in Carson would be in the 10-12 mile range from LAX. A hotel in Torrance would put you a bit closer to LAX and still pretty close to the stadium. Outside the immediate Carson/Torrance area there are lots of hotels in places like Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and all of the airport hotels at LAX.
Good news for any and all L.A. bound. The MTA strike is over. You might still want to rent a car, but the Green Line (from the airport) to the Blue Line, (to the HDC) or the Red Line (right to the Kodak theater for the gala, will be running. Just a thought for those who realize the parking options suck.
Cool... thanks!       Are there shuttle services to and from either hotel and the airport(s)? Or would renting a car from the airport be the better option?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
And on a side-note: is suntan-lotion needed for day games at HDC, or does the roof pretty much cover the stands from the sun the whole day?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
That depends on where you are sitting. If you are with the biggest Quakes group in the north end, there is no roof over that. Other areas that do have a roof over them also get sun at different times. I'd put on some sun-block just in case especially if I was from the sun deprived nothern part of the state.
Will the Will-Call window be open the day before (Saturday)? It would be nice to be able to pick them up early and not deal with the crowds.
Is anyone else but me staying at the Torrance Hilton...I feel so lonely?! If anyone is pm me and maybe we can go down to the HDC together.
