How and why are Klinsmans comments about being nasty taken so negatively? Greg Popovich said it to his Spurs team and it became a shirt, but when the USMNT says it people get upset. I like his comments.

I just heard the comments and you know what... I AGREE with our coach... Mexico when they get routed its because they were clearly beaten. We came out timid and by min 25 are 0-2 looking NOT to get hammered. I say take off the white gloves, dirty that new kit and start taking names. We can win with our skill, but we need to send a message of respect. The US was timid and got beat... AGAIN.
Being nasty works for the SporKS, and as we know, it's an open question whether the USMNT would have a chance vs. Sporting.
You can say your team needs to be tougher, more physical, etc. but he seems to be advocating injuring people. To say something like that publicly is to say, "Dear CONCACAF refs, please give the USA red cards for touch fouls." Stupid tactical blunder, moral considerations aside.
i like that we aren't a national team that flops. i also like that we aren't a team that plays dirty. get aggressive? sure. don't back down? sure. but dirty? i'd rather lose with skillful fair play than win from dirty thug play. lets emulate the spains, not the minnows.
I have no issues with the progression of the USMNT other than the continued used of Boca/Gooch All other issues are being worked on or solved. My take is MLS related in part because MLS is where Cameron, John , and (hopefully) Gonzo play. You get my drift......... Hopefully Klinsmann does too.

That's not what the US coach is saying, he never said to go out there and break people's leg. All he's saying you can't be Mr nice guy on the world stage, aggressive play he's talking about. I am sure you watched SKC play as of late. By the way Spain lost SK a few days ago.

his actual words don't seem to support your interpretation: "Maybe we're still a little bit too naive, maybe we don't want to hurt people, but that's what you've got to do,” Klinsmann said after his team fell, 4-1, to Brazil.
I guess that interpretation coming from the news media and what he said is a figure of speech , meaning "the team needs be a lot more aggressive "..
