It's really the title and the intro blurb. It's the downside to internet news.

I wouldn't call it "strange," but I thought it was an interesting backstory. And yes, the Yew-Ess-Ay is all about club over country, since no one really plays "our" sports. If they do and they beat us, wull, y'see, it's the early pre-season of spring training and pitchers are only allowed to throw fitty pitches or sumfin, an, an...

Ray Hudson is the master of the metaphor that no one else has thought of. Ah mean, gie us a break, he's gut a greet beg haart, a haaaart the sayze of a peggg, faantaaaasteck, absoluuuuteleh mah-jeck!

According to the article linked the Rapids and Timbers Academy teams did not qualify. Gottschee is affiliated with NYCFC. I don't see any reference to Toronto. Houston Dynamo is in the tournament. I don't know why we don't get a logo.

Ah, the logo image is for the U-15/16 tournament. Houston is in the U-17/18 tournament.

Does United's Academy use the old logo still?

That could be from June 1994. "Hey, I just found out that in other countries soccering is a yuge deal! I should let people know!"

I met the ref for one of the Fire academy games at the Soldier Field Copa tailgate. He was high on something and ended up forgetting his bag near our truck when he went into the stadium. As we were packing up to head in, he came running back to the car and asked about the bag. He promised, in gratitude for keeping his stuff safe, to give the Fire Academy one free offsides goal. So, we got that going for us...

    Midwest, the real one.
We went nearly a decade without a major national team needing to come up with excuses for not calling our players. Now we have two in quick succession. I see progress here.
