Hell, nobody else has said it, but I vote for a blackout...can DCU organize it in one day? Challenge!
Ummm as in we all wear black? But we always do. Or did you mean as in no TV ... because I like to tape the game and watch the tape the next week a few times. Let's just show up ... and wear black. -Tron
First, big difference between broadcast TV and cable and ability to black-out. If Fox wants to blackout a Skins game (b/c it doesn't sell out), they don't broadcast (or send the feed) to Channel 5. For cable--you've got contracts with Comcast, Cox, DishTV plus dozens of other smaller cable providers in the DC area that serve smaller homes or bars and restaurants. It's not as easy as it is with TV. The only really effective way to do it would be to get ESPN2 to drop the game and put bowling or ice skating or baseball on instead. Ugh. Second, a blackout would be a bad thing. It would reduce some viewership for the broadcast. Even if it didn't, it would decrease POTENTIAL viewership--which would affect advertising rates and revenue. I have another suggestion. Get as many folks in the stadium as we can (given the realities of a school night, weeknight, etc.). Then have a bouncing, loud, wild, chanting, drum beating bunch of maniacs on a mission. And let people watching ESPN see that and go "holy ***************!!!--what a place to be!!!". The ESPN broadcast is PR for DCU and us fans to the rest of the sporting world
JoeW - I think you missed the memo. uniteo is calling for all fans to wear black = Black Out. I wore a black polo with my tattered DCU grey as an undershirt today. Very hard to concentrate.
'We' as in SE's, BB's, La Norte and the BS nutters, sure, but in the past when DCU has organized and publicized the "Black Out" it has made a big difference in the look of the general fans...or so it seems to me. And yes, everyone wear black.
