Bedoya and whoever that other guy is seem to live in Fantasy land. The ayers don't want to take pay cuts but when presented with an alternative to sitting at home they bitch that its for " the benefit of the owners" Do they think the money in those half million dollar salaries grows on trees? That the league is proposing this so that they can stuff their pockets at the expense of player safety? Or that maybe, just maybe, they're trying to find a way to get the thing started up again before they absolutely drown in red ink? "Short sighted"????? Really? How about how short sighted it would be to just do nothing? Or better yet, just re start the league with zero preseason which is what it would be without something like this? Wah, wah, wah. My feelz. You want to stay at home playing Yahtzee with the small fry instead of going someplace and playing soccer, great. Quit. In the real world lots of people get sent out of town occasionally for extended periods for work assignments. Lots of people. And they aren't paid what you guys are paid. "But my family, my mental health, my convenience" blah blah blah. Cry me a river, Nancy
That idea didn't sit well with Bedoya, who poked numerous holes in the plan during an interview with ESPN's Taylor Twellman that aired Wednesday. "I would start off by saying that I think every one of us agree that we want to get back to playing," Bedoya said. "I want to get back out there, being competitive, [playing] games. The staff wants to be out there, fans want to be watching games, but I will say that this all feels a little bit rushed. I Oye Bedoya! If there's grass on the field let's play ball!!!
"Too rushed?" If I made a living based on my athletics I'm not spending my quarantine time on my arse watching Tiger King. So while I don't expect the players (for any sport in any league) to be in peak condition they should be good enough to show up and practice the moment the gates open.
I can appreciate your point, Bill. But, I'll say that when other people get sent out of town (for business) occasionally for extended periods it doesn't usually mean that they can't go back and see their family at home when urgent situations occur. I do wonder what the discussions around "urgent leave" look like right now. I understand that in the MLB's current proposal, players who leave would face a 14-day quarantine upon return, which is reasonable. Does the current MLS negotiation have this as well? If so, what would qualify as "urgent leave"? There are many important questions, and I am glad that there is a players' union to ask them.
I was surprised the XFL went belly up so quickly but now I'm wondering who's next. If MLS doesn't play this year and things aren't perfect come February makes me wonder if it all comes crashing down. Right now that CBA was never signed and makes you wonder come January if the owners might want to go back to the table with the loss of revenue?
Word on the street is that the XFL isn't dead.....filing for bankruptcy protection was a business strategy. Vinnie Mac is rumored to be purchasing the XFL from Bankruptcy, and launching again.
