Time to update the stadium name list.. The home of the Sounders will now be called Lumen Field starting today. https://www.seattletimes.com/sports...hawks-and-sounders-to-be-renamed-lumen-field/
This probably isn't a good sign.. MLS has reportedly laid off a number of people today. News:I hear from multiple sources that there were layoffs at Major League Soccer today. Possibly a lot of them. Including some significant names. One I've heard is vice president of broadcasting Larry Tiscornia.— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) November 19, 2020
Unfortunately, this is an epidemic in all of sports. This year destroyed a lot of financial statements, and employees are paying the price.
Yeah, I mean MLB teams cut hundreds of people last month and the Dodgers just laid off staff. The Lightning in the NHL just reduced their staff size by around 10% as well. The next few months are going to be a bloodbath across the sports world for staff since they are the ones that can easily be jettisoned.
Another release stated that league revenues are down 95% in 2020. Not at all surprising but it makes the need clear: what business can lose 95% of its income and not lay off some folks as a result?
